I think the Buy Books for the Holidays movement is a great one. I do realize that it’s hard for people (Carl) to buy me books that I don’t have or haven’t already read, so I decided to make a wish list on Powell’s Books. That way I can get some books (you know I need more!) and support an independent bookstore at the same time. (My list isn’t intended to be all inclusive.) Here it is:
- The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
- The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly
- Naked by David Sedaris
- Janeology by Karen Harrington
- Poor But Proud: Alabama’s Poor Whites by Wayne Flynt
- Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons
- Balzac and The Little Chinese Seamstress by Sijie Dai
- The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb
- Balls by Nanci Kincaid
- Heartbreak Hotel by Anne River Siddons
- Santa Clawed by Rita Mae Brown

Looks like a great list — eclectic! And what a great idea to create a gift list of books. Hope you get at least one!

I have usually asked for a gift card to avoid any duplications, but there’s good and bad in that plan. The good is you get to choose whatever strikes your fancy during your shopping trip, but the bad is you don’t get to open and hold a brand spankin’ new book on Christmas morn.

When I worked at Barnes & Noble everyone always got something from the bookstore for Christmas. Now I’ve gotten out of the habit. I should make it a goal for this Christmas!

Great list! and what booklover doesn’t want more books? I think it is funny when people say they don’t want to just get me a book and I tell them, but thats what I WANT!!
I’ve heard great things about Janeology lately!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo would be on my list, too.
Here’s hoping you get something on your list!

That is definitely a good list. Wally’s Lamb’s new book is on my list. I have requested it out loud already. I want it.. wrapped and waiting for me under the tree…I will make sure that the two adult males that live at my house hear this request another time before the season gets underway
I love the idea of supporting local book stores!!!

Really great list! I have 4 on my wishlist and 2 I have read and enjoyed. Now I will have to look up the ones that I’m not familiar with because I will probably want those too! LOL

This is a good idea, Kathy! Other than my husband, my family and friends tend to avoid getting me books even when I give them lists. I think they figure I have too many already. LOL

Can’t wait to read what you think about Balls…it’s been so long since I read it, I almost want to go back and take a look at it again…if I didn’t have so many others waiting on me. Great time of year to read that one, too…go SEC football!

I definitely have to do this too!
Just wanted to let you know I gave you an award / tagged you here.

Nice list! I’d like to read some Sedaris soon. I tried “Me Talk Pretty One Day” and didn’t love it, but I think it’s time to give another one a shot.

The Lincoln Lawyer is good and Ellen Foster is one of my all-time favourites. Hope you get lots of book presents.

I have four overlapping with your wish list – *The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo*, *The Hour I First Believed* and *Janeology*.
I want to read *The Lincoln Lawyer*, but it’s not on my official wish list. *The Brass Verdict* was the first Michael Connelly book I read, and I really liked it.

Great list!! My husband has a hard time buying me books, too, but he tells me he doesn’t have to buy me any because I already have enough. LOL However, he did buy some for my last night online, and it was easy for him because I was standing right there practically jumping up and down with excitement!

I see a few on there that are on my wish list too.
Great idea to make your list on Powells, Kathy.

Nobody could buy me books without a list either. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo looks good!
