Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where we share new (to us) words that we’ve encountered in our reading. Feel free to join in the fun. (Don’t forget to leave a link in your comment if you’re participating.)
All of my words for this week come from Love Walked In by Marisa De Los Santos.
1. profiterole - “Her mother arrived when they were still at the breakfast table, and she would sit for a minute and have coffee with Liv and tell vivid little stories about the party: a minor avalanche of profiteroles, a drunk guest’s profanity-studded toast, a hostess swooning in her tight-cinched corset-bodice dress.”
From the context, I thought profiterole was food and I was right. A profiterole is a miniature cream puff with a sweet or savory filling.
2. frangible – “For a few groggy seconds, it was nighttime, and she was back in her house, alone with her mother’s roaming in the frangible untrustworthy quiet nighttime always brought.”
Frangible means readily or easily broken.
3. self-abnegating – “I thought about arguing, re-submitting my transubstantiation theory, but quickly recognized this thought for the self-abnegating lunacy it was .”
Abnegate means to deny or renounce, so self-abnegating would be denying or renouncing oneself.
What new words have you discovered lately?

The words (and sentences) don’t match the title in my experience. From the title I expected a light, fluffy romance. The words are quite substantial and make me think there is more to this story than fluff.
My words are posted at Joyfully Retired.

Haha! I love that you can add a couple random letters to the middle of ‘fragile’ and it still means the same thing.
This week’s edition.

I’ve always wondered what a profiterole is. I guess I haven’t seen it in the right context, because I never would have thought of food.

Do you think frangible is a portmanteau of fragile and tangible? (portmanteau was a new word for me last week and I’m now seeing it a lot – funny how that happens sometimes.)

Profiterole is a really curious word. I never heard of it before. And I like frangible- I was thinking the same as Care. My words are here.

Profiteroles are really big in England. They are just lovely . Chocolate covered choux pastry filled with cream. YUM!

Profiterole! One of my favorite words, and I so rarely have a chance to use it.

“Frangible” is my favourite. I think I’ll try to use it in a sentence this week

That’s weird, I could have sworn I’d already commented here this afternoon! I guess I forgot to submit my comment!
I’m familiar with all your words, but I didn’t know profiteroles could have savoury fillings. (The sweet version is yummy!)

My mom lurrrrrves profiteroles, and orders them every time they show up on a menu, so that one I knew.
“Frangible” is also great.

Great list. I didn’t have any to post last week, but I think I’ll have a couple by Wed.
