the girl who stopped swimming
the girl who stopped swimming by Joshilyn Jackson is the story of a Southern family. Laurel Hawthorne’s mother is from DeLop, a poor, backward town, but she has managed to rise above it all. The family stays connected to DeLop with annual Christmas trips and Laurel befriends a relative who is her daughter’s age. While the relative is staying with them during the summer, Laurel is awakened during the night by the ghost of a young girl, who is laying drowned at the bottom of their pool. She runs out to try to save her, but it is too late. The police rule the death an accident, but Laurel knows there is something wrong and that her daughter could be in danger because of it. She contacts her estranged sister to help her discover the secret. Laurel and her family must face some skeletons in their past to solve the mystery and keep her daughter safe.
I enjoyed Joshilyn Jackson’s other books and this one did not disappoint me. Her books are all set in the South and her writing really makes you feel like you are there.
Hi–I didn’t actually understand that people found these cool little weekly doo-dads somewhere on line, I thought everyone came up their own. So, I thought about it and came up with my own little “meme” (only I didn’t know it had any sort of official name/description!) Every Friday, I’m going to put a link to a quiz from my favorite magazine site on my page. Last weeks was the audio one, about songs with the word baby in them. Mental Floss is full of weird trivia stuff, so I thought it might be fun!
We would love to have you for Tuesday Thingers! You don’t need to sign up. Most folks leave a comment in my entry with their link or their URL. Welcome aboard! 🙂
oh yea! I forgot to mention the Delop in my review. Well… can’t tell everything. 🙂 I’m going to link to this; I meant to add other reviews.
