Mailbox Monday
March 30, 2009
Thanks to Marcia at The Printed Page for hosting Mailbox Monday. Head over there if you want to see what everyone else got last week or if you want to join in the fun. I didn’t get tons of books last week, but I’m really excited about the ones I got. (I think I actually read more books than I acquired last week!) Here’s what I got:
Thursday
- Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson from Presenting Lenore
- Stone’s Fall by Iain Pears from Spiegel & Grau
Friday
- Shanghai Girls by Lisa See from Random House
What books came into your home last week?

I have been wanting shanghai girls and Wintergirls since I’ve seen them around. Hope you enjoy all the books.
I got two out your three! I’ll have to track down Wintergirls after it comes out.
I got Shanghai Girls as well, but I want the other two you got. I have heard nothing but good things about Wintergirls.
I have Shanghai Girls on hold at the library. Looks like a good book.
I’m really enjoying Shanghai Girls!
Shanghai Girls looks really good. I just couldn’t read Winter Girls, not if it is about anorexia. I did get the Ian Pears book, didn’t realize it was going to be 800 pages. That should be interesting reading.
Enjoy your week in reading.
Here is my mailbox
Winter Girls is hugely popular but I don’t think it would resonate with our readers. While the disease is growing among AA girls, overeating is the bigger issue (no pun intended). And I’ve learned that young people look for obvious connections. Many will not see that eating disorders in general is a problem and it stems from emotional distress.
I do however prefer ‘issue’ books because many kids need and want information and books allow them to get it without directly asking an adult.
Good week for you 😀 I have heard only good things about Shangai girls
Happy reading.
My Mailbox is up
I don’t believe anything came in the mail for me last week. I bought a book but that doesn’t really count. I need to get around to reading Wintergirls! I’ve entered a contest or two for it so *fingers crossed*
AHHHHH! Wintergirls!
I’m having trouble relating to WINTERGIRLS. So many people have given it good reviews, I’m going to keep at it. I’ll be interested to see your review.
Ooh, you got some good ones! I really want to read both Wintergirls and Shanghai Girls. I hope you enjoy them – can’t wait to read your reviews!!
It’s nice that you were able to catch up a little last week 🙂
Why not list where they came from.
I’ve been wanting to read something by Anderson for awhile now, but I thought I’ll start with Speak first. And you have the latest Lisa See? Lucky you! Happy reading!
I’ve read some really great reviews of both Shanghai Girls and Wintergirls. I hope you enjoy.

I am hoping that I get Shanghai Girls this week.
I already have WinterGirls down on the TB list.
You got some good books Kathy. Can’t wait to see your reviews.
I got Shanghai Girls too. It’s one I am terrifically excited about. I just know it’s going to be great!
Lucky you getting See’s new novel! I have not read anything by Iain Pears…but for some reason I am drawn to his books. I’ll be interested to read your thoughts on that one.
Oh, I would kill for a copy of Shanghai Girls – lucky you!
Wintergirls!
Ohhhh – Kathy – I’ve heard such great things about Shanghai Girls – I hope you really enjoy it. I’ve got to add that one to my PBS Wish List if it isn’t already on there. Enjoy!!

Lucky you to get Shanghai Girls. I look forward to your thoughts on it.
That’s an accomplishment that you read more books than you got in your mailbox! It’s help to even things out, I can understand.
I got Shanghai Girls also and can’t wait to read it.
I bought Geography of Bliss, The Poe Shadow, Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, and Still Alice last friday. I just bookmooched a bunch of books, too, so those should start showing up this week or next. (ps – I would start with The Handmaid’s Tale for your first Atwood… imo)
Wintergirls looks so good. so jealous!
I’m trying not to be jealous … I so want to read SHANGHAI GIRLS!!
Enjoy your new books, Kathy. I’ll look forward to reading your thoughts on them.
And I can’t wait to hear what you think about all of them. I’m jealous!
I do love that Wintergirls cover.
These books all sound great. Enjoy them!
Great week!
You got two of the ones I received. I didn’t get Wintergirls yet…but it’s coming. I can’t wait to read
Shanghai Girls, how about you?

I gave you an award today! You can come pick it up here if you’d like: http://imlostinbooks.blogspot.com/2009/03/award-for-me.html
Oh wow! You have WINTER GIRLS! That’s going to be a good one. 🙂
I want to read the other one by Lisa See that I’ve heard so many good things about — The Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, I think it is called. Love the collage.
Is it terrible of me to be so completely and totally jealous? I bet you can guess which two books I really want from your list! 😉
nothing today…a few books last week…plus a box of 20 the week before. i’m busy over here!!!
Looks like you did indeed get good ones! Enjoy!
I’ve been wanting to read Shanghia Girls. Also winter girls. Hope you enjoy them.
You got Shanghai Girls, too! Doesn’t it look great? Hope you enjoy all your new books.

I have to say I am more than a little jealous of your Mailbox Monday.
oooo shanghai girls. can’t wait to see what you think!
I’m interested to see what you think of Wintergirls and Shanghai Girls – they both look good 🙂
I got Shanghai Girls and Stone’s Fall, but not Wintergirls (sigh — it’s on my wish list). I don’t keep my list by the computer, but last week was kind of a big week for the UPS guy. I got quite a few books, particularly from Simon & Schuster. I think they’re dumping their warehouse to prepare for inventory. Just a guess. 🙂
I just got the Pears book too. I loved An Instance of the Fingerpost so I’m hoping to enjoy this one also.
Thank you for stopping by the mailbox this week. I’ve already read ‘Shanghai Girls’. I liked but not a much as some of her other novels.
I received Stone’s Fall as well – but I am jealous of Shanghai Girls! That one looks really good.
