Blog Improvement Project: Blog Post Bingo

The latest Blog Improvement Project assignment is Blog Post Bingo Round 2.  The goal of this assignment was to do as many of these 12 types of blog posts:

  1. A Link Post
  2. A Short Post
  3. A List Post
  4. An Opinion Post
  5. A Poll or Question Post
  6. A How-To Post
  7. A Long Post
  8. A Review Post
  9. A Definition Post
  10. A Personal Post
  11. A Resource Post
  12. Free Space

Once again, I’m sorry to report that I didn’t do that well on this assignment – I managed to 6 of the 12 posts, and I might be stretching it in a few cases.    Here’s what I did come up with:

  1. Free Space – I’m counting my Wondrous Words Wednesday meme from July 8.
  2. Short Post – My review for The Proposal fits in this category.
  3. List Post – I listed the books that arrived in the previous week on my Mailbox Monday posts.
  4. Poll or Question – I asked everyone to vote on which books I should take to the beach.
  5. Review Post – I’ve written several reviews but will count the one for Last Light over Carolina.
  6. Personal Post – This may be stretching it, but I’m counting my poll post for this one, too, since I wrote about our trip to the beach and the bookish event we’ll be attending while we’re there.

This assignment was a lot of fun, butI think it showed me just how little I know – for the life of me, I couldn’t come up with anything for a How-To, Resource or Definition post.  I asked Carl and Vance for ideas and they couldn’t think of anything for me either.

I loved taking part in blog post bingo – it is really hard to do, so you did a good job.

I think that you are trying to be too clever with your posts. They don’t have to be rocket science – my ‘how to’ was ‘how to find more time for reading’ Which isn’t very knowledgeable, but will hopefully start a bit of a discussion. What may seem obvious to you might be really useful for a new blogger, so try not to be too hard on yourself – I’m sure there are loads of things you know which you can blog about.

Don’t worry! I think you did fantastic. I didn’t even attempt these items so you should be commended for that!

Nice job! I stretched a couple of mine too, so I’m ok with others doing the same 🙂

I think Jackie is right about not thinking too hard on the posts. I did the same thing — I never got around to definition mostly because I was too worried I’d “define” something and get it wrong! I’ve always wanted to do a post about what literary journalism is, which, now that I think about it, would have fit that category perfectly.

In any case, I’m glad you were able to do six of them and that it was fun. The BIP for next week is going to be a little bit more low-key, I think 🙂

I think you did great! I don’t think it’s a stretch for the personal post.

How about, How to get the award for the best commenter?

Good for you, Kathy! I don’t normally attempt challenges at all so you completing half of one is actually inspiring for me.

Those are some great ideas for posts. I’ve been trying to bring mine up to some higher standards too lately and it’s challenging to come up with topics sometimes!

Even though I’m a total blog improvement dropout, I think this is a fun idea. I’m going to copy the list and attempt it myself! Good job! I guess the idea is to add some variety to your blog — and I like having a direction to go in sometimes that is different from the norm. Thanks.

You get lots of credit. I seem to be temporarily unmotivated for BIP. I love the project . . . I need to jump back in.
