Review: Finger Lickin’ Fifteen

July 30, 2009

Finger Lickin' Fifteen

Stephanie Plum is a bond enforcement officer for her cousin Vinnie.  While she’s at the office one day, her sidekick, Lula, comes in claiming to have witnessed a murder.  It turns out that she saw celebrity chef Stanley Chipotle being killed.  The murderers find out that Lula was a witness, so they’re after her now.  A reward has been offered for anyone who catches the murderer, so Lula’s signed up for a barbecue cook-off to try to catch them and collect a reward.  Lula recruits Grandma Mazur to help with the cook-off, so of course, Stephanie’s involved too.

In the meantime, some of the residences and businesses that Ranger provides security for are being robbed and he asks Stephanie to help him catch those responsible.

Finger Lickin’ Fifteen is the latest installment in Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series.  As usual, it’s a light, easy read full of fun, quirky characters.  This book can easily be read in one sitting.  Grandma Mazur and Lula are featured in this book a lot and they’re both usually good for a laugh.  As always, there’s a lot of sexual tension between Stephanie and Joe and Stephanie and Ranger.

All of the books in this series can stand alone, but I suggest reading the series in order to fully appreciate the relationships between the characters.  This was the perfect book for me to read at the beach since I didn’t have to concentrate too much on what was going on.  Don’t expect great literature with this one, but if you need something light to read and/or are a fan of this series, I recommend it.

There are so many series out there. I haven’t read a lot of them. The Hunger Games Trilogy is probably the only one that I have read this year and I didn’t know it was a series when I started.

Everyone seems to just love these books. I stopped the series at number 2 or 3. They were fun and entertaining, but I never seemed to go back for more.

Have you ever read any of her old Loveswept romances? Some of them are absolutely hilarious!!

#9 is next on my list of Stephanie Plum books. I’ll get to #15 sometime next year (doing the SP Challenge and that ends Dec. 31, 2010). This one sounds like it was perfect for the beach. Nice review!

Very well said. I consider these books to be like movies — just a few hours of fun times.

    Good morning Kathy! 🙂

I may need to pick this one up. I followed her series until about book 10… there was one in there that I just didnt really enjoy….

I have found her to be funny and love the Morelli, Ranger characters.

I have a few girls in my book club that dont miss a read by Janet Evanovich.

Glad to hear you weren’t disappointed by this one. I think it was mostly the fart jokes that turned me off.

I just finished the second book in this series on audiobook this morning. These are just plain fun! Thanks for the review Kathy.

Sounds like a good plan for a trip, sitting in the airport. I will definitely keep this in mind!

Thank you for reminding me about Stephanie Plum. I’ve read one or two and enjoyed them. I’m going to have to figure out where I left off in the series and pick back up with it.

I started with book one recently, but have yet to start another book in the series. I really like the between-the-numbers books because they are so out there.

My mom sent me this book, so I will read it at some point.

I’m a Ranger-girl and I heard that this one was a nice entry for my team. I’m on the library list, no idea when my turn will come up.

I don’t get the books any more because The Hubster and I really enjoy listening to the audio versions on road trips. They’re great for long car trips.

Oh and Ranger all the way!

  14. July 30, 2009 12:33 pm

I”ve never read these books, but my mom loves them, though I think she’s ready for the series to come to a close.

If I ever get caught up on my “reading for review” list, I’m going to check out a Stephanie Plum book. Thanks for the suggestion.

I haven’t read any of this series, but I did hear recently that there is going to be graphic novels based on one of the characters – Diesel?

  18. July 30, 2009 2:20 pm

I enjoy this series for what it is…light, easy, fun and a quick read! I enjoyed this one…as you said, it’s not great literature but it’s definitely fun reading. Perfect beach read!

Stephanie is hilarious! I haven’t kept up since about book 9. I need to catch up on her and, my favorite, Ranger!

I only had three chapters left to go this morning when I saw you had a review. So, I didn’t read your review then. I’ve finished the book and now I’m back to say I agree. I’m glad you liked it too. The books are just plain fun. I’m hoping to post mine tomorrow.

  21. July 30, 2009 7:31 pm

It’s always fun to read a light book with some sexual tension in it!

  22. July 30, 2009 10:09 pm

I just finished this one the other day. I enjoyed it…my thoughts will be posted tomorrow. Loved your review!

I stopped reading at the 9th book because I desired resolution. With Ranger. Either that, or I wanted her to just give up and send Ranger to Mississippi.

  24. July 31, 2009 2:46 am

I would definitely look for this book. And it’s good that it’s stand alone.

  25. July 31, 2009 7:09 am

I have skipped the last few in this series for some reason, but I love Lulu so I may have to check this out. Now if I could remember which was the last I read…

I’m wondering if I’m the only person out there who hasn’t read any of this series. I’m still on the fence with this one. I heard a bit of one of the books in Serena’s car and it seemed funny enough. Maybe I’ll give it a try when I want a light read. Thanks for the review.

I always want to like these, but the two I’ve read just didn’t catch me. Everyone seems to love them, though.
