BBAW: Giveaway #3
It’s Book Blogger Appreciation Week and the theme of this year’s event is “Celebrate Books.” So, in keeping with that theme, I’ll have a giveaway every day this week. Today’s giveaway is for an ARC of A Separate Country by Robert Hicks. This book will be released on September 23. I’m reading it right now and I’m enjoying it so far. (I received two copies of this, so the winner will get a brand new, unread copy.) Since I haven’t finished it, I’m going to rely on the publisher’s synopsis.
Set in New Orleans in the years after the Civil War, A Separate Country is based on the incredible life of John Bell Hood, arguably one of the most controversial generals of the Confederate Army–and one of its most tragic figures. Robert E. Lee promoted him to major general after the Battle of Antietam. But the Civil War would mark him forever. At Gettysburg, he lost the use of his left arm. At the Battle of Chickamauga, his right leg was amputated. Starting fresh after the war, he married Anna Marie Hennen and fathered 11 children with her, including three sets of twins.
To enter to win an unread ARC of A Separate Country by Robert Hicks, simply leave a comment on this post. Contest is open worldwide. I will use random.org to determine the winner. Contest ends at midnight EST, Friday September 25, 2009. Winner will be announced on Saturday, September 26, 2009.
Hmm, sounds very interesting. While I haven’t read a lot of fiction about the American Civil War (there isn’t too much of that over here in NZ), the few books I have read about it have been really interesting. It’d be even more so to read about a genuine historical figure at the time, even if it does sound like a pretty sad (or tragic, sure) story!
Anyway, count me in for the contest, please – sounds really interesting. 🙂
I too have this book so I’m not going to enter and take the opportunity away from someone else, but what a lovely giveaway!
i would love to be entered for this book. I love anything set in New Orleans, which ever time period.

Pam my good friend, You Canadians do need to read more about the War of Northern Aggression. I can say that since my husband is a Yankee and I am a Southerner and we banter about the Civil War all the time. He is a history nut so this entry is for him.
