Wondrous Words Wednesday
Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where we share new (to us) words that we’ve encountered in our reading. Feel free to join in the fun. (Don’t forget to leave a link in your comment if you’re participating.)

All of this week’s words come from Blame by Michelle Huneven.
1. putative – “Wasn’t that what best friends – and putative bridesmaids – did?”
Putative means commonly accepted or supposed.
_____________________________________________________
2. corm – “Patsy pried a thick corm from the dust.”
A corm is a rounded thick modified underground stem base bearing membranous or scaly leaves and buds and acting as a vegetative reproductive structure.

3. vituperation – “Then came much gushing about Brice – His nose! Aquiline supreme! – followed by little until he was diagnosed, when complaint and vituperation gushed from his pen.”
Vituperation is sustained and bitter railing and condemnation.

Dear Bermudaonion
Please forgive me emailing you in such a seemingly cold fashion. You seem to share my love of language and I wondered if you might like a mutual link to my English word website:

For some reason, I like the word “vituperation.” I just don’t want to be accused of doing it.(:
I would have had to also look up “aqualine” in # 3. Corm is the only word I’d heard of.
Here are my 3 words.

I like putative but not sure if I’ll remember to use it.
My Wondrous Words are HERE.
I don’t like the meaning of “vituperation”, but for some reason I find the word itself so cool.
Hi!
My first time joining in on this meme. You can see my word at my place, Just Books. They are all great words. But I’ll probably forget them. Have a great day!

I know I probably could have been accused of at least short-term vituperation and am not proud of it. I am off to check out the meaning of aquiline!

I really like the definition and the sound of ‘vetuperation’. Haven’t heard of any of these words though.
I like the sound of vituperation! And it seems I’m not alone 🙂

“Vituperation!” I’d forgotten about that word — I’d love to work it into a conversation sometime soon. 😀
