You can call me crazy, but I’m in!
You’re probably wondering why I’m signing up for another challenge when I’m not making much progress on the three I’m already participating in. I’ll give you two reasons – one, I’m crazy, and two, this challenge looks like so much fun, I can’t resist. Here’s the details from Booking Mama‘s blog:
Details:
The Shelf Discovery Challenge will run for six months (November 1, 2009 – April 30, 2010). To join me in this challenge, all you need to do is grab a copy of SHELF DISCOVERY and pick out what six books you want to read (of course, you can read more than six!) Then, after you read a book, just write a “book report” to share your thoughts with others!
Sign Up:
Grab the challenge buttons at the top of this page and write a post detailing what six Shelf Discovery books you are going to read within the next six months (you always have the option to change your original list — I’m flexible like that!) Once you have posted your Shelf Discovery challenge post, come back to this post and click on Mr. Linky. Please leave your name and link directly to your introductory post (not just to your blog’s home page.) If you don’t have a blog, no worries — you can just leave a comment on this post telling me you want to participate.
I’ve decided that I want to read books that I missed when I was young. Here’s what I’ve come up with (keep in mind this is subject to change at any time):
- Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret by Judy Blume
- Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Greene
- Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt
- Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh
- All-Of-A-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor
- Julie of the Wolves by Jean Craighead George
Wish me luck! Julie’s giving away 10 copies of Shelf Discovery by Lizzie Skurnick – head over to Booking Mama to enter the contest and the challenge!
YAY! I’m so glad you joined up! Here’s to hoping it’s a lot of fun!
I think I’m going to read ARE YOU THERE GOD, IT’S ME MARGARET and HARRIET THE SPY too!
I’m looking at this one, too, but haven’t decided yet.
This looks very tempting but I promised myself no more challenges for a while – except the Read Your Own Books challenge. I really need to do that one.
Good luck, it’s a wonderful challenge!
I certainly wouldn’t say you’re crazy for doing such a thing. I’m thinking of signing up for yet another challenge when I’ve got at least three I’m not going to finish in this lifetime. So – good luck and have fun!
Good luck! I really need to read Are You There God again. I don’t think I’ve read the others.
I’m looking forward to hearing your comments about the books you’ve picked out. This looks like it will be fun.

I’m thisclose to signing up – I read Shelf Discovery in September, and it made me a bit nostalgic :-). I’ll probably go with re-reads, mostly, with maybe just one or two books I missed the first time around. Glad you’re in – this really does sound like fun!
Kathy, I had no idea you were crazy. You just seem so normal. I’m guessing you mean that crazy=joining challenges? Then I think I’m crazy too. Good luck with your challenge. It looks fun.
Oh man, I know! I’ve not really made any progress whatsoever on either of my challenges, but I find myself drooling over this one! I might cave and dive in there, too…
Cool challenge! I hope you enjoy. I’m not committing to any more this year (CAN’T DO IT!!!), but I want to! 😀
Oh MAN, Julie of the Wolves! I totally forgot about that one. This looks like such a fun challenge. I’m already doing the MG challenge so it might be too much overlap o count as legit fun but I MIGHT look into it. Enjoy!
You’ve got some great reading ahead. Enjoy! 🙂
(Heading over to Booking Mama now. . . .)
Good luck to you, as well! I like your picks too. I may have to add to my list!
I love love love “Harriet the Spy.” Totally ruled my world back in the day. I love this challenge but am afraid to revisit books I loved so much as an adult. Might ruin them for me, I’m afraid. Have fun with it!
good luck on this challenge. I’m hoping I finish the ones I started for 2009….LOL
I must be the only blogger that doesn’t see the fun-ness of challenges.
Good luck to you too! I almost put Harriet the Spy but there were just too many choices. I may have to add it as a 7th pick…or possibly 8th.
You are a wicked woman! I REALLY want to join this. I recently unearthed my ORIGINAL copy of Margaret (torn back cover and yellow pages, in all its glory). I read it in a couple of hours…it was easy when I still remembered entire passages by heart. Then passed it to my daughter, and she read it two or three times. I’m about to leave on a cruise with my girlfriends, but if I am still inspired when I come back, I’m in.
I think it’s the word challenge that gets to us. I have missed the starting date of previous challenges so I think I will join you with this one! And I must be crazy too because where-oh-where am I to find the time?
Good luck with the challenge!
I LOVED Summer of My German Soldier, and Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret is always a good choice as well. I was never able to get into Cynthia Voigt as a kid, although a lot of my friends loved her books; I wonder if I’d fare any better now?
Sounds like a fun challenge!
I hadn’t heard of this challenge until now, but it does sound like a lot of fun! Enjoy!
LOVED Judy Blume… I am going to check this out 🙂
Challenge is unique and fun too. I read Judy Blume’s Are You There God , It’s Me Margaret few months back and I realised what I missed as a teen. Have fun reading.
I loved Harriet the Spy! Good luck with the challenge
It’s very tempting, I have a lot of fond memories of many of those books.
Great list! I read four of your six when I was young. I loved all of them, although I’d say Harriet the Spy and All of a Kind Family were favourites, since I reread both of these (and the All of a Kind Family sequels) several times. Have fun with this challenge!
It sounds like one that I would enjoy!! Now I have to tell myself that I don’t need to do another challenge!! Enjoy and have fun!
Hello from a fellow crazy woman!
I’m making my Shelf-Discovery reading list this weekend. My plan is to hunker down during a snowstorm this winter and go down memory lane with my favorites.
This looks interesting…I’ve never done a challenge and this one looks fun…Are you there God..is one of my favorites..as is Summer of my German Soldier ( the tv movie with Kristy McNicohles..is really good too)…Im going to have to check this out..Thanks!
Sounds like a fun one. Good Luck!!
I just joined this challenge and I am so excited. I decided to go for books I have never read, but if I had decided to throw in some old favorites, All-of-a-Kind Family would have undoubtedly made the list. It is one of the books I remember the most fondly from my childhood.
