Books Bought

November 22, 2009

Books Bought is a meme hosted by Cindy of Cindy’s Love of Books.  I’ve done more book shopping lately than I should have, but sometimes it’s just too hard to resist.

Carl took me out for dinner on my birthday last week and afterward, we wandered around a bookstore.  I found good deals on Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Dai Sijie, An Abundance of Katherines by John Green and Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson, so I just had to get them.  It was my birthday, after all.

I met Janna McMahan at the SIBA Trade Show.  When she emailed me last week to let me know that she has a novella (Decorations) in Snow Angels, and that Snow Angels is #6 on the New York Times Bestseller list under mass market paperbacks, I just had to buy a copy.  Plus, I can read this for the Holiday Reading Challenge!

Vance came home for his Thanksgiving break yesterday and he brought me Posed for Murder by Meredith Cole.  When the author had a book signing near him, he went and bought a book and had her autograph it to me.

What new books have you bought?

I think SNOW ANGELS looks great. I really like some of the authors whose stories are featured in it!

Oh, another Scorpio! A belated happy birthday wish to you. I’m sorry I missed the day. Of course you should buy books for your special day. Today we are taking the family out for dinner right near the Cape Cod Mall where there is a B&N and I can use my gift certificate. Yes, there is a method to my madness!

I love the cover to Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. Enjoy!

That was so nice of Vance to do that for you. Did you know he was doing that?

    Happy belated birthday!!
Enjoy your new books. From your purchases, I have only read Balzac, which was awhile ago but I seem to remember enjoying.
    Happy reading.

Oh, I can hardly bear to answer this question…I’ve been on a book buying frenzy, allegedly for my Secret Santas in the book world, but alas, also for me. I bought “The Name of This Book is Secret” for my class because it looks so unique and fascinating; Someone At A Distance, Greenery Street, and The Making of A Marchioness from Persephone; Her Fearful Symmetry because everyone else has bought that lately, and Gourmet Rhapsody for my mother because she loved The Elegance of The Hedgehog. I’m sure there’s a few more in there somewhere, but I’ll have to look under the receipts!

Buying books on your birthday is mandatory!

Happy birthday! I really enjoyed Balzac and Abundance of Katherines, so I hope you do too. 🙂

yes, I agree..for your birthday you are allowed to buy an unlimited number of books! It is a rule!
I too love the Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress cover…but I must say Posed for Murder sounds light up my alley.

What have I bought? Well, to give you an idea of my sickness, I went to a Junior League Christmas Mart and what do I buy…2 books. But I was supporting two local authors. That is my excuse..lol

Went to the library and stayed away from the bookstore though there is one book I must have from B and N. Nice set of books you got -I like the covers too. http://bookbirddog.blogspot.com/2009/11/sunday-salon-nov-22.html

yay, Katherines! Loved that book 😀

Have to admit, I bought Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress a few years ago, for the cover alone! Didn’t know anything about the book or the author. But I ended up really enjoying the book when I read it, so I guess sometimes it’s OK to let the cover art be your guide.

Jealous of Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. I want to read that one. But then again, I have more than I can handle all the time! I have An Abundance of Katherines, which I have been wanting to read, and still haven’t read it because I am trying to complete challenges for the year.

    Happy belated Birthday!
I can’t wait to read that John Green book! 😉

You’ve had a good run with books. That was very sweet of Vance, what a thoughtful son you’ve raised 🙂 And happy (late) birthday. Sounds like it was a good one.

Happy belated birthday, Kathy! My daughter and I bought two books Friday night as consolation for not being able to get tickets to New Moon: The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson and City of Bones by Cassandra Clare – we both plan to read both. 🙂

Such a nice son you have to take the time to go get a book autographed for you. I’m glad you treated yourself to some books for your birthday too.

  26. November 23, 2009 3:53 pm

I have wanted to read An Abundance of Katherines for a really long time, but haven’t bought my copy just yet. I hope you really enjoy it, and I will be interested in hearing what you think. Your opinion might sway me one way or the other!!

I read Balzac and the little Chinese seamstress a while ago, and loved it. I hope you will too! An abundance of Katherine was certainly fun. And I want to read Twisted too.
