Wondrous Words Wednesday

December 9, 2009

Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where we share new (to us) words that we’ve encountered in our reading.  If you want to play along, grab the button, and join the fun!  (Don’t forget to leave a link in your comment if you’re participating.

All of my words this week come from Roses by Leila Meacham.

1. asperity – “’There’s nothing to revise, Amos,’ Mary said with a trace of asperity.”

Asperity means rigor, severity.

2. folderol – “I don’t want to be part of all that patriotic folderol the mayor has planned.”

I love that wordpress doesn’t recognize this word either!  Folderol means nonsense.

3. logy – “She was feeling too logy to argue, like a contented, well-fed cat.”

I felt like I should have known this word, and I did figure it out from the context, but I wanted to look it up to be sure.  Logy means marked by sluggishness and lack of vitality; groggy.  I think I can use this word a lot!
