2010 challenges

December 29, 2009

I’ve been agonizing over which 2010 challenges to sign up for and I’m not really sure why.  I know there aren’t any consequences to failing at them, but I really only want to sign up for those I think I can complete.  After making a long list of possibilities, these are the challenges I’ve decided to join:

The Debutante Ball 2010 Reading Challenge

This challenge is actually divided between Current Debs, hosted by Jen of Devourer of Books, and Previous Debs, hosted by Swapna of S. Krishna’s Books.  I’m signing up for both halves and hope to read 1 of the Current Debs’ books and 2 of the Previous Debs’ books.

THIB! Twenty Minute Book Club Challenge

This challenge is being hosted by Nicole of Linus’s Blanket and it consists of reading books from the twenty minute book club on her Blog Talk Radio show.  There are many different levels and I’m taking the cautious approach and signing up for aluminum – 4 books.

War Through the Generations – 2010 Vietnam War Reading Challenge

This challenge is hosted by Anna of Diary of an Eccentric and Serena of Savvy Verse & Wit and obviously focuses on books about, or set during, the Vietnam War.  Since I can’t think of too many books and cautious is my middle name, I’m signing up for 5 books.

What’s in a Name? 3 Challenge

This challenge is being hosted by Candace of Beth Fish Reads and to complete it you must read books that fit in a few categories – a book with food in the title, a book with a body of water in the title, a book with a title (Queen, President, etc) in the title, a book with a plant in the title, a book with a place name in the title and a book with a musical term in the title.  I think I can do this one since creativity is allowed.

The Beth Kephart Reading Challenge

I thought I was through with challenges, but I couldn’t resist this one when I saw it since I love Beth’s work and her support of the book blogging community.  I’m going for Mix’n’Match, which means my goal is to read four of Beth Kephart’s book in the next six months.

Books Won Reading Challenge

The point of this challenge is to read and review books you’ve won.  I’m going to go with the Bronze level – to read 4 to 6 books that you’ve won.  (I actually hope I read a lot more than that, but I’m cautious with challenges.

Since I’m also working on completing three other challenges, I think this will be it for me for 2010.

Some interesting challenges there for 2010. I could not resist either, and joined 10 myself. I decided 10 is my max at any time. Whe I finish one, I can join another—LOL

This is my first year participating in reading challeneges that last the whole year, and I agree with you: I really wanted to participate in ones that I think that I can finish!! Good luck with all of your challenges and happy 2010!

Thanks so much for adding What’s in a Name to your list! We’re in a lot of challenges together, but I resisted some good ones (like the books you’ve won). Good luck, and remember that there are no challenge police — and no such thing as failing (just changing interests!).

It is so hard to decide, there are so many good ones. I take them very seriously because I want to complete them all! I hate to fail! You have chosen some great ones. But I won’t judge you if you decide to join more later! It is sort of pathologocial!

  11. December 29, 2009 9:39 am

Good luck with all your challenges! I’m so glad you’ll be joining us for the Vietnam challenge. 🙂

Good for you, Kathy! These all sound like wonderful challenges and I know you will be reading some great books in 2010 in order to complete them.

I look forward to reading all the reviews and following your progress.

I’m so glad you decided to join the Debs challenge, I hope you enjoy all the books you read for your challenges!

  17. December 29, 2009 11:50 am

Good luck with all your challenges. I’m like you– I know there are no consequences to not fulfilling them, but I’m just competitive enough not to accept that!

  18. December 29, 2009 12:14 pm

You have a nice selection of challenges here. I thought of you when I saw the Books Won Reading Challenge announced. You win so many that it’s a good fit for you. Good luck with your challenges.

  19. December 29, 2009 12:17 pm

Good luck with all of the challenges Kathy! I think I need to check out the books won challenge.

  20. December 29, 2009 12:38 pm

Holy Moly! I probably have signed up for close to this many as well but seeing it all in one post is overwhelming! I might have to add the Books Won Challenge!

  21. December 29, 2009 1:21 pm

Great picks. I went a little overboard with my 2009 challenges, so I’m trying to be more circumspect in 2010. We’ll see if I succeed. 🙂

  22. December 29, 2009 2:41 pm

I’m digesting all the contests everyone’s joining before deciding which ones I’m going to sign up for. I missed it a little this year, and I think I’m going to try to pick ones to overlap with my reading plan.

I’ve starred your post in my google reader. I liked a couple and think I’ll join them, as well 🙂

  23. December 29, 2009 2:47 pm

Great choices! I love to see what everyone signs up for! I’ll be doing the ‘What’s in a Name’ challenge with you!

  24. December 29, 2009 3:31 pm

The Books WON challenge sounds interesting – assuming I win anymore books! Guess a positive mindset is in order.

  25. December 29, 2009 3:50 pm

There are just so many great challenges out there this year. I am hoping to sign up for a few if I can make some time for all the ones I want to do! Good luck on the challenges you have chosen, I hope you have a great year of reading ahead!

  26. December 29, 2009 5:05 pm

Good luck with your challenges. I really need to write this post too.

It’s hard to choose isn’t it? I chose four for 2010, but none of the same ones 😦 I’ll have to live vicariously through you.

  28. December 30, 2009 2:17 pm

Have fun with all the challenges.

  29. December 30, 2009 7:19 pm

I know what you mean about wanting to be able to finish challenges even though there are no consequences!! And I have no doubt you will win more than 4 to 6 books — it seems like you win that amount each week!!!

  30. December 31, 2009 12:40 am

Some interesting challenges here, I’m still deciding which ones to go for, all the best with yours…

  31. January 1, 2010 4:15 am

These look pretty good. I might have to add one to my 2010 challenges. Good luck!!

  32. January 1, 2010 11:08 pm
