2009 Challenge Wrap-Up

December 31, 2009

I’ve finally had some success at challenges!  I was able to complete two of them in 2009!

War Through the Generations: World War II challenge

This challenge was hosted by Serena and Anna and they did a great job with it – you should check out the challenge’s blog.  I set a goal of eight books and managed to complete the challenge in November.  I was really excited because this was the first challenge I ever completed!  The books I read are:

  1. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
  2. The Reader by Bernhard Schlink
  3. The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
  4. Aleutian Sparrow by Karen Hesse
  5. Soul Survivor: The Reincarnation of  a World War II Fighter Pilot by Bruce & Andrea Leininger with Ken Gross
  6. Inglourious Basterds by Quentin Tarantino
  7. A Teenager in Hitler’s Death Camps by Benny Grünfeld
  8. I Have My Mother’s Eyes by Barbara Ruth Bluman

2009 Holiday Reading Challenge

This fun challenge was hosted by Nely of All About {n}.  The goal was to read 1 to 5 holiday books and I managed to read four!  The books I read were:

  1. Wishin’ and Hopin’ by Wally Lamb
  2. The Body in the Sleigh by Katherine Hall Page
  3. Christmas Cake by Lynne Hinton
  4. Bed and Breakfast by Lois Battle

I also started two challenges in 2009 that won’t end until 2010.  I’m still working on:

I completed 3…I’m proud of my underachievements! 😉

It’s so much easier to finish when you only do a few.

You rock! I’m failing fast at a few challenges right now!

Good for you Kathy. I finished the Generation one early too. So many good books seem to fall into this category.

  6. December 31, 2009 7:53 pm

You did well, Kathy. My rule is that I don’t join any challenges which require too much “required reading”. 🙂

  7. December 31, 2009 8:34 pm

Congrats kathy…2 is better than none right?

  8. December 31, 2009 11:02 pm

Eek, I didn’t realize the Shelf Discovery Challenge ends that soon!

Your completion of 2 was 2 more than mine!!!

  9. December 31, 2009 11:11 pm

Congratulations, Kathy! Of all the challenges I tried, I was most disappointed that I read only 2 books for War Through the Generations.

Do you plan to join any others in 2010?

  10. December 31, 2009 11:18 pm

I should look into the Sookie Stackhouse Challenge. I haven’t read any yet but I want to! Got a gift card burning a hole in my pocket for Amazon…. hmmmm..

    Happy New Year Kathy!

Great job! I love reading challenges but they are often so challenging that I can’t complete them. I’ve limited myself this year so many I’ll have more success.

Congratulations, Kathy! I haven’t been so good with challenges myself, but with 2010, I’m ready to try again. I’m hoping the challenges I’ve signed up for will help to shape and organize my reading. Time will tell . . .
