2009 Challenge Wrap-Up
I’ve finally had some success at challenges! I was able to complete two of them in 2009!
War Through the Generations: World War II challenge
This challenge was hosted by Serena and Anna and they did a great job with it – you should check out the challenge’s blog. I set a goal of eight books and managed to complete the challenge in November. I was really excited because this was the first challenge I ever completed! The books I read are:
- The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
- The Reader by Bernhard Schlink
- The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
- Aleutian Sparrow by Karen Hesse
- Soul Survivor: The Reincarnation of a World War II Fighter Pilot by Bruce & Andrea Leininger with Ken Gross
- Inglourious Basterds by Quentin Tarantino
- A Teenager in Hitler’s Death Camps by Benny Grünfeld
- I Have My Mother’s Eyes by Barbara Ruth Bluman
2009 Holiday Reading Challenge
This fun challenge was hosted by Nely of All About {n}. The goal was to read 1 to 5 holiday books and I managed to read four! The books I read were:
- Wishin’ and Hopin’ by Wally Lamb
- The Body in the Sleigh by Katherine Hall Page
- Christmas Cake by Lynne Hinton
- Bed and Breakfast by Lois Battle

I also started two challenges in 2009 that won’t end until 2010. I’m still working on:
- The Sookie Stackhouse Challenge hosted by Beth Fish Reads which ends on June 30, 2010
- The Shelf Discovery Challenge hosted by Booking Mama which ends on April 30, 2010
I completed 3…I’m proud of my underachievements! 😉
It’s so much easier to finish when you only do a few.
You rock! I’m failing fast at a few challenges right now!
congrats on completing these! hope you have a wonderful new year. 🙂
Nice work! The Shelf Discovery Challenge sounds like fun.
Good for you Kathy. I finished the Generation one early too. So many good books seem to fall into this category.
You did well, Kathy. My rule is that I don’t join any challenges which require too much “required reading”. 🙂
Congrats kathy…2 is better than none right?
Eek, I didn’t realize the Shelf Discovery Challenge ends that soon!
Your completion of 2 was 2 more than mine!!!
Congratulations, Kathy! Of all the challenges I tried, I was most disappointed that I read only 2 books for War Through the Generations.
Do you plan to join any others in 2010?
I should look into the Sookie Stackhouse Challenge. I haven’t read any yet but I want to! Got a gift card burning a hole in my pocket for Amazon…. hmmmm..
Happy New Year Kathy!
I have a few of those on my wish list!
Have a great 2010! May it be filled with more books!
Congratulations on the completion! Cheers to an even more exciting year of reading in 2010! 😀
Congrats on your challenges!!
Congratulations on your challenges!
Congratulations on your success. Here’s to much more in 2010! Good luck 🙂
Great job on your challenges. I have made some progress with Shelf Discovery but still have to post my reviews.
Congratulations on the challenges you’ve already finished, and good luck with the challenges you’re still working on!
Happy New Year Kathy! 🙂
Good job!
Wow. I didn’t know that Inglorious Basterds had begun life as a book. Really interesting list there.
Happy New Year and happy reading!
Great job! I love reading challenges but they are often so challenging that I can’t complete them. I’ve limited myself this year so many I’ll have more success.
Congratulations on your challenges.
I hope you have a very happy new year, Kathy!
Kathy I will have to read this one. My mother’s maiden name is Honeycutt. Hope you family had a great holiday.
Congratulations on finishing those two challenges!
Congratulations on completing your challenges, Kathy!
The English Patient was such a powerful film for me. I should read the book now, especially as you listed it here.
Great job on the challenges!!!
I’m still working on Sookie as well. Congrats on completing the challenges…
I wanted to tell you the new buttons are read for the Vietnam War reading Challenge, so check them out on the Buttons page.
Congratulations, Kathy! I haven’t been so good with challenges myself, but with 2010, I’m ready to try again. I’m hoping the challenges I’ve signed up for will help to shape and organize my reading. Time will tell . . .
Congratulations! Challenges really help me focus.
You did great! Congrats!

Great job! And you seem to do a good job in controlling yourself when it comes to challenges … we could all learn from you! : )
Way to go! I’m excited to participate in War Through the Generations this year.
Good for you Kathy! Congrats!
