Review: Saving CeeCee Honeycutt
Since her father travels for his job, twelve year old CeeCee is left at home to care for her mentally ill mother. As her mother’s disease progresses her behavior becomes more erratic, and CeeCee finds herself more and more isolated. Her saving grace is their neighbor, Mrs. Odell. When CeeCee’s mother is killed in an accident one day, her father comes home and informs her that she’s going to live in Savannah, Georgia with her Great-aunt Tootie. CeeCee objects because she doesn’t really know Aunt Tootie, but really has no choice. In Savannah, CeeCee meets some wonderful women, but will she be able to let go and grieve for her mother, so that they can help her?
I loved Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. Having lived in the South most of my life and visited Savannah quite a few times, I know Beth got the rhythm and the feel of the Savannah just perfect. I longed to visit Savannah again as I read this book.
This book is about the power of love and acceptance. It’s about learning to believe in yourself and learning to trust others. I was sucked in right from the start and just had to know how CeeCee would cope with the loss of her mother and moving to a new environment.
The characters are the best part of Saving CeeCee Honeycutt, though. CeeCee is smart, sweet and wise beyond her years. She’s good, but she’s not perfect and that just made me love her all the more. When CeeCee arrives in Savannah, she encounters a group of strong, wonderful, independent women and I loved every one of them for their wisdom, strength and quirks.
I predict you’ll be hearing a lot of great things about Saving CeeCee Honeycutt since this book is sure to be a best seller. It’s one you won’t want to miss. Here’s Beth Hoffman talking about the book:
I think the book sounds great. I would love to read this one. My wish list of books seems to be expanding exponentially 🙂
It’s definitely on my list for this year. And I love the video. The whole idea of not walking away but walking toward ‘myself’ resonates. Thanks for adding it to your review, Kathy.
Kathy…yahoo for CeeCee. I am so happy you loved this, and every time I read a terrific review on this book it makes me smile. (Hope we read lots of great books like this one in 2010)
Between your review and the video, I was hooked. I will definitely read this book this year. Thanks for posting about this book!
Can not wait to read this one!! Very soon! I love your excitement for this book!
This sounds so sad but everyone is raving about it. One thing I learned in 2009 is to trust blogger raves, so I put it on my to-buy list!!!
Oh, what a lovely video. It just was magical listening to Beth Hoffman talk about walking toward herself. My. I have been hearing a lot about this book and know that I will enjoy it. It sounds like a book that will feed the soul. I discovered my top book of 2009 very early in the year (it was The Help) and I may have discovered 2010’s top read very early as well. Thank so much for sharing!!
Mmm, strong Southern female characters? Sounds wonderful!
I am reading this book now and I am loving it too. It’s going to be one of my favorite reads this year! Great review Kathy!
First book added to the tbr list in 2010!
I have heard wonderful reviews of this book as well. This is obviously a book not to be missed.
My heart breaks for Cee-Cee and this story sounds so sad at first but it sounds like the story is also filled with inspiration and wonder.
Thank you for a wonderful review, Kathy!
I am adding this book to my tbr list!
Happy New Year, Kathy!
Love,
Amy
Hi Kathy,
Thank you for such a lovely review of my novel. I’m glad you enjoyed CeeCee’s story and I hope it brought you lots of good laughs.
Happy New Year!
Beth,
I picked up a copy of Saving CeeCee Honeycutt at Barnes and Noble last Friday night and am sorry I had to go to work today because I want to continue reading the book. What a lovely story. You have a way of introducing fictional people to readers like they are real life individuals you want to meet. Thank you for the companionship of CeeCee. Little does she know she has many friends because of your wonderful book about her.
Hi Joy,
Thanks a million for your kind words. I’m delighted that you’re enjoying CeeCee’s adventures!
Oh, now I just can’t wait til I get to read this one Kathy…thanks for the review!
Love the video and can’t wait to read the book. Still waiting for my pre-order and glad to know that you enjoyed it so much.
I will be reading that one this month too as Beth Hoffman was so kind to send me a copy. I can’t wait!
This book sounds great! It’s in my list of reads for next year for sure!
I’m catching up with your last few posts. I can’t believe you read that many books in one year. I haven’t read any of the ones on your favorites list. How did you like Boy in the Striped Pajamas? That is on my TBR list. I just started The Irresistible Henry House which is an ARC and so far I love it!
I certainly hope you have a great 2010. Thank you for being such a wonderful and supportive friend.
This definitely sounds like one I’d like to read. Thank you for posting about it.

I don’t recall hearing about this book before today and all of a sudden it’s on several of my friend’s Top Ten lists! I’ll have to look for this one.
I keep seeing really good reviews for this…I’ll have to keep it in mind.
Happy reading in the New Year, Kathy :-)!
What a great sounding book. It sounds like it has the essential elements of a sweet and wonderful book. I see it made your top 10 list of 2009. I don’t need more info than that!
Just stopping by to say “Happy New Year!”
Thank you for the review and the video. The author is so charming, I want to spend more time with her. I’ll just have to read the book now.
This is the second fantastic review I’ve read of this one….will have to make sure I read it!
The cover alone captures my attention, but a great character driven novel makes this a sure thing. Thanks for the heads up!
I’m putting this one on my list, I hadn’t heard about it before and I think I would love it! Happy New Year, Kathy!!
This sounds like one I’ll love, too. Hope I can read it soon.
I’m halfway through this right now so I’ll have to come back and read your review when I’m done.
I think I’d like this one. I’m adding this to my to-read list. Thanks for the review.
I’m going to check this out one day. Thanks for the review, Kathy!
Everyone loves this! Can’t wait to read it myself.
Happy New Year to you and your family. So glad to have gotten to know you this year.
Loved the YouTube video of Beth talking about Savannah, the book, and her life. Thanks, Kathy! Isn’t it just a wonderful book? I already sent the ARC to my mother as her January Book-of-the-Month gift from me, and she loved it as much as I did. And, you know how much I love it. (grin)

I have been hearing a lot of raves about this book … you called it! And I just love the cover.
I’ve never been to Savannah but would love to visit one day. This sounds like a good book. Thanks B!
Okay. I’m back because I finished the book a little while ago. Even though Beth is a little hard on northerners (we do have some redeeming values) this is a great way to start 2010. If you can believe it I’ll be giving it 5 stars 🙂
I believe this author will be signing books at a little bookstore near me in a couple of weeks.
With that beautiful cover and your review this is going on my wish list.
I love books that are set in the South. I’d love to live in the Southern US at some point in the future for a year or two.
I have kind of a fascination with literature that deals with mental illness, so this book sounds wonderful to me. I am so glad you liked it and will be grabbing my copy shortly. Thanks for the excellent review, I can’t wait to read it!
I enjoyed very much your review of Saving CeeCee Honeycutt. Thank you.
This is one I’d really like to read!
