The Swan Thieves National Book Launch

January 14, 2010

When I heard that the National Book Launch of Elizabeth Kostova’s new book, The Swan Thieves, was going to be in Asheville, North Carolina, I knew that I had to go, and my sweet husband agreed to go with me.  The book launch was held at The Captain’s Bookshelf, a store that specializes in fine and rare books, which seemed fitting to me.

A few hundred people were in attendance on a blustery evening and many of them seemed to know and have great affection for Elizabeth.  There was excitement in the air as everyone visited and waited to have their books signed.  There was a photographer for The Asheville Citizen Times taking pictures and you can see some of her photographs on their website.

Here’s a video of Elizabeth’s reading.  I just got this camera for Christmas, and this was really our first attempt at using it, so it’s not perfect.  Early on, someone accidently jostled the camera and I thought about trying to edit it out, but that would have ruined the audio, so I left it in.  It doesn’t last long anyway.

Make sure you check out my giveaway for a signed and dated copy of The Swan Thieves.

    I could scream.

Wish it goes international – as far as Philippines! How very lucky! Did you get your book signed?

I wanna go to that bookstore too. I keep on complaining why there aren’t enough bookstores here to satisfy me. Maybe I could ask God..
