Kid Konnection: Prom and Prejudice
Things aren’t easy for a scholarship student at elite Longbourn Academy. Just ask Lizzie Bennet. In the semester she’s been there, she’s had to put up with all kinds of bullying from her classmates. It’s a good thing her roommate, Jane, is kind and considerate and tries to include Lizzie in social events. When Jane drags her along to a reception, Lizzie meets Will Darcy, who goes to an all-boys’ school nearby. Darcy has just returned from a semester abroad and doesn’t make a good first impression.
The school year at Longbourn revolves around the prom – “it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single girl of high standing at Longbourn Academy must be in want of a prom date.” Since she’s looked down on as a scholarship student, Lizzie knows she doesn’t have a chance of being invited. That’s okay, though, since she can’t afford a designer dress anyway.
When Darcy shows some interest in Lizzie, she lets him know just what she thinks of him, in no uncertain terms. When something happens that shows Lizzie just what kind of guy Darcy is, she comes to realize that she has some prejudices of her own, but it just might be too late.
Prom and Prejudice by Elizabeth Eulberg is a delightful Young Adult book! There’s a little romance, a little drama, some misunderstandings and loads of fun in this book. I just loved Lizzie – she’s a fish out of water, doing her best to survive in an unfriendly environment. Once someone harasses her, she assumes everyone will, so she has a little bit of a chip on her shoulder, which doesn’t help her situation at all, but I could understand where she was coming from.
Older middle grade and young adult readers will adore this current day retelling of Pride and Prejudice. It’s smart, funny, and romantic without being over the top. Be sure to check back on Monday for a giveaway of this great title.

My daughter and I would love this since we love Pride and Prejudice. I also think the premise of the story is unique as far as Austen re-telling goes.
That does sound cute! I think I’d like to read it too.
This sounds adorable! I love the premise!
Romance, drama, misunderstanding, fun … yup! That’s middle school/high school 🙂 This might be good for my older daughter (who I don’t think has read P&P). I’ll add it to my wish list, and be back to put our name in for your giveaway.
This one sounds fun, and I do like modern re-tellings of this most beloved story 🙂
Don’t you just love reading these funny, uncomplicated teen things. Did I say uncomplicated? I’m sure the teens didn’t think so. Great review. I’ll be back to enter into your give-away.
My review is coming on Monday, but I loved this book too! It was such a sweet read and perfect for young girls!
i have seen this one EVERYWHERE and really want to read it to see if I can use it for my 9th grade book club! my students would really get a kick out of it. not too much profanity, and no ‘adult’ situations, right?
Aw! This sounds like such a sweet, fun read. And anything that will get youngsters into Austen deserves an A+ in my book!
Too funny! This sounds like a very entertaining YA book. Great review, Kathy! 🙂
I think I’d buy it just to sneak a peak at how they do their take on Pride and Prejudice.
It sounds really cute and heck.. who doesn’t love a PROM 🙂
This does feel like a cute book! Jane Austen seems to be everywhere lately – I was just watching an Indian movie recently very loosely based on one of her books.
I thought this was a cute book as well. Lizzie was definitely the best part. 🙂
What fun! Since P&P is one of my favorite books, I’ll be back for the giveaway!
This sounds fantastic! Onto the wishlist it goes.
I’ve been wondering for a long time what Melissa would make of the Austen books, and am not sure that she is at an age yet where she would appreciate them. This one sounds like it might be more up her alley, and in a way, prepare her for trying some of Austen’s work. This is a great find and I will have to be on the lookout for it. This is just what I needed, yet I had no idea until I read your review that I needed it! Thanks so much Kathy!
I read Pride and Prejudice when I was in high school and have been a fan ever since. Every once and awhile I like to read books based on this classic. I’ll have to keep this one in mind.
Sounds like a great read and a nice break from all of the end of the world type YA books out there.
I’ve been a huge P&P fan ever since I read it for my English class last year. Prom and Prejudice is a great spin-off that I really enjoyed reading!
