Saturday Snapshot

February 5, 2011

This is another picture that we know nothing about, but I just love it.  My dad is the one on the right, but we don’t know who the other two men are.  We do know it was taken before my parents met and they were married in 1950.   To me, it looks like a scene from an old movie like Casablanca.  Based on the bottles on the table, I think it was taken in a foreign port.    As we’ve looked through all of these old photos, we’ve come to realize that Vance favors my dad.

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books.  It’s easy to participate – just post a picture that was taken by you, a friend, or a family member and add your link on Alyce’s site.

I just love all those old family snapshots and you obviously feel the same way.

My 24 year old niece actually got out some family snapshots the other day and was heard to comment that she enjoyed looking at them and how sad it is that she now downloads all her pictures to the PC ,as in years to come she won’t have physical album pages to turn and ageing photographs to enjoy.

Ah! the signs of the times and from someone so young!

I’ve been enjoying your old family photos so much that I asked my dad if he could bring some up for me to scan into the computer the next time he visits.

Oh, I love old photos, too. They remind me of the great black and white movies that I sometimes watch for the nostalgia they evoke in me.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  10. February 5, 2011 1:24 pm

What a treasure trove you have in these old photos. I’m enjoying them.

  11. February 5, 2011 1:26 pm

The only thing better than sharing your family photos would be if someone seeing them would recognize a person you can’t identify. Well, I can dream, can’t I?

  12. February 5, 2011 1:34 pm

Great photo, I can see Casablanca 🙂

  13. February 5, 2011 1:38 pm

That is a great picture. I hope you keep doing this meme. I love seeing your posts.

  14. February 5, 2011 1:45 pm

I love looking through the pictures you have been sharing! How wonderful it would be if you could track these men down and get to know more about your dad’s life. (A book in the making? 🙂 )

Isn’t it amazing when you look at old photos and see your relations in them? One of my favorite photos (sadly I don’t have a copy) is of my grandmother and her three sisters and each sister looks distinctly like some of my cousins–love seeing the connection.

This picture does remind me of some of the old black & white films, such as Casablanca. (I watch many of them!). Your dad looks very content and the man in the middle looks like he’s feeling pretty good!
It’s wonderful that you have these photos even if you don’t know exactly where or when they were taken, they still are a wonderful history of your parents.

This absolutely looks like a scene from a classic movie! I feel like someone is going to come dancing out of the background at any second.

  18. February 5, 2011 2:26 pm

    I love these photos…so nostalgic.

    THANKS.

  19. February 5, 2011 2:26 pm

  22. February 5, 2011 2:48 pm

You see Casablanca… I see From Here to Eternity.

Bogart had nothing on your dad. Love his smile.

  23. February 5, 2011 4:48 pm

Old family photos are such treasures! This is wonderful. I was out of the blogging loop for awhile and missed that your father passed away, my sincere sympathies Kathy. You are honoring him through these wonderful memories.

As you rightly say it looks straight out of one of those older black and white movies. They seem to be having a jolly good time as well.

  28. February 5, 2011 9:20 pm

    Love this!

  29. February 5, 2011 10:36 pm

I really enjoy these wonderful series of pictures that you’re sharing – this time period is just absolutely gorgeous. When men were men and women were women. I loved how people dressed then.

  30. February 5, 2011 10:37 pm

    Such a treasure!

Heh, old photos are so much fun. I love how the guy in the middle has his cap at such an angle. They look like they are having a good time!

  32. February 6, 2011 10:30 am

Does look like a scene out of a movie! I’ve so enjoyed your trip back in time with the black and white photos.

That’s a great photo! It does look like a bunch of actors sitting around in an old movie 🙂

I’m so envious of you, having such great photos. My sister ran off with almost every photo in my mother’s house . . . and most of the furniture and decorations. I get a pang of grief whenever I see someone else’s fabulous old photos.

  36. February 6, 2011 3:11 pm

I love your photo. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for the nice comment you left at my blog and Cheryl’s. I would follow you, but I can’t find your followers. Let me know where it’s at & I’ll come back. Have a great weekend.

What a great photo, and those gentlemen were all so handsome! I so wish that our family had some pictures like these. I am going to have to ask my grandma is she has any at her place.

That’s so funny about Vance and your dad. We found an old photo of my dad when he was just a month or two older than Gage and they are scarily similar!

  42. February 7, 2011 7:32 pm

What a wonderful photo! I love black and white photos from the fifties, as you can see from my blog’s header, but how special to have one of your own dear father.

  43. February 7, 2011 8:53 pm

I so enjoy these photos, Kathy! I’m chuckling at how askew the cap on the man in the center is …

  44. February 7, 2011 9:02 pm

I’m so glad you are continuing to share these. I let some of my parents’ friends know about my mom’s passing and one of them send me an old snapshot of them together at a party. It was such a wonderful thoughtful gift.

  45. February 8, 2011 1:57 am

How wonderful to have so many great old photos. 🙂 I’m going to have to see if I can find any of our family’s old photos…
