Saturday Snapshot

This is another picture that we know nothing about, but I just love it. My dad is the one on the right, but we don’t know who the other two men are. We do know it was taken before my parents met and they were married in 1950. To me, it looks like a scene from an old movie like Casablanca. Based on the bottles on the table, I think it was taken in a foreign port. As we’ve looked through all of these old photos, we’ve come to realize that Vance favors my dad.

I just love all those old family snapshots and you obviously feel the same way.
My 24 year old niece actually got out some family snapshots the other day and was heard to comment that she enjoyed looking at them and how sad it is that she now downloads all her pictures to the PC ,as in years to come she won’t have physical album pages to turn and ageing photographs to enjoy.
Ah! the signs of the times and from someone so young!

i am also a fan of old photos and love looking back at my grandparents and family members. my dad spent his childhood overseas (mainly istanbul and hong kong) and we have so many exotic photos and slides. thankfully, my grandmother labeled everything! 🙂 your dad sure cut a dashing figure in his uniform! enjoy the weekend.
I’ve been enjoying your old family photos so much that I asked my dad if he could bring some up for me to scan into the computer the next time he visits.
Oh, I love old photos, too. They remind me of the great black and white movies that I sometimes watch for the nostalgia they evoke in me.

Isn’t it amazing when you look at old photos and see your relations in them? One of my favorite photos (sadly I don’t have a copy) is of my grandmother and her three sisters and each sister looks distinctly like some of my cousins–love seeing the connection.
This picture does remind me of some of the old black & white films, such as Casablanca. (I watch many of them!). Your dad looks very content and the man in the middle looks like he’s feeling pretty good!
It’s wonderful that you have these photos even if you don’t know exactly where or when they were taken, they still are a wonderful history of your parents.

I’m so envious of you, having such great photos. My sister ran off with almost every photo in my mother’s house . . . and most of the furniture and decorations. I get a pang of grief whenever I see someone else’s fabulous old photos.

I’m so glad you are continuing to share these. I let some of my parents’ friends know about my mom’s passing and one of them send me an old snapshot of them together at a party. It was such a wonderful thoughtful gift.
