Saturday Snapshot

February 19, 2011

I was on Twitter recently and Jennifer was talking about her daughter’s upcoming First Communion and how it would be a time for tears and pride.  I mentioned that I had a picture from my mom’s First Communion and several people said I should post it.  When I went to find the picture, I discovered that it was actually from my mom’s Confirmation, but I decided to post it anyway.  I asked my mom about it and she said she thinks this picture was taken around 1939.

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books.  It’s easy to participate – just post a picture that was taken by you, a friend, or a family member and add your link on Alyce’s site.

I just love these sepia family snaps that you post

I don’t have any pictures of my confirmation, from about 40 years ago, but I can remember that I was tormented and bullied by some of the other girls, as my godmother, who had by then emigrated to California US, sent me over a hand made lace mantilla to wear, together with a white leather bible and prayer book, all of which I still have.

    This is so precious.

My family has a photo of my mom on what I thought was her First Communion. Now I’m wondering if it was a Confirmation picture. The same type outfit and serious pose.

Sounding like a broken record…but I, too, love these old pictures. My mom still has all of our old family pictures, so I couldn’t post them if I wanted to. I love peeking into your family history.

What a precious photo! I wish I had more photos of my mom when she was growing up. She only has a few because they lost almost everything in a house fire when she was in middle school.

Oh my Kathy, what a precious picture to have. My moms family was pretty poor so there were no cameras when she was really young but I have a few of her when she was about fifteen. It’s really great to be able to look back in time like that.

Keep em coming Kathy, this is by far one of my fave moments during the weekend. I love seeing your pictures of family and the history behind each photograph.

  37. February 20, 2011 7:37 pm

I love this photo, and the clothes and head covering are amazing! Times have changed so much, and so much of the special ensembles that were worn back then to these kinds of events have been lost. It’s amazing to see this and to realize that it was such a special day for your mom.

  38. February 20, 2011 10:57 pm

    What a great picture!

  39. February 21, 2011 2:58 pm

  40. February 21, 2011 5:53 pm

I’m still really enjoying the older photo’s you are sharing. My how times change…when I was confirmed my outwit was much, much different. lol

  41. February 21, 2011 8:24 pm

Confirmation? Wow … she looks young for confirmation. And I love how serious the outfit is … they went “all out” for those events back in the day.

  42. February 27, 2011 4:29 am

Gorgeous picture, Kathy! You have great family treasures.
