Saturday Snapshot
February 26, 2011
This is another picture of my dad we know very little about. We do know that it was taken sometime between 1946 and 1949, but we don’t know the place, time, or who else is in the picture. My dad is the second from the left. Don’t you just love the double-breasted pea coats the and the bell bottom pants? (I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – label your pictures for future generations.)
Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce of At Home With Books. It’s easy to participate – just post a picture that was taken by you, a friend, or a family member and add your link on Alyce’s site.

Love it! Well most of our pics are digital now and we have them assorted by event, month and date. I don’t know that I’ll ever get around to going back to the old ones. I know…..I should.
Another great old photo! I have albums of old pictures dating back to high school (for me that’s many years) that I should label. I’m always putting it off because I don’t think anyone would care who was in those shots… but I’m probably wrong.
Look at you and your old pictures again! I love them!
Here’s mine:

Excellent advice! My mom and I went through my grandparent’s pictures and there were so many we could not identify. My aunt was just there hope she could help!
Such a great picture!
I adore these photographs and wondering the story behind them. As for the peacoats, that style is very much back in.
He looks very relaxed too! Heh, what fun old pictures you have 🙂
I just LOVE this picture!
my dad and i went though a bunch of his childhood photos and labeled them. dad lived in new york city, miami, peru, istanbul, and hong kong in the first 16 years of his life (and traveled around europe and africa) and it would have been impossible for me to know what was taken when and where without his help. well, except maybe the photos from egypt. lol.
I love all of your old photos! It looks like the weather must have been cold from how they were dressed.
I really love those coats and this picture — and all of your family pictures. Hopefully I can see more in SC!
Another great photo! Your dad kind of looks like my dad in this photo!
Oh those coats are awesome!
Fashion never goes out of style. Pea coats and flared out pants… still works and another great pic.
Thanks for the reminder of labeling pics… I’m one of the many who forgets this all the time… I just think that I’ll remember everything.. and then reality hits with age… I do the circa thing and hope I get it right ;P
I love it! I like the spunk in the second guy 🙂
I just love your old pictures!! My father was in WWII, too, and I love looking at the old pictures of them on the boats. He is sooo young (he’s 90 now)!!
I once did an oral history project with an elderly relative, going through old photo albums and having her tell me who was in each picture. The pictures were from the early 1900’s. I just loved loved loved the ones at the beach!!!!
I have labeled most of mine….and a lot of them are in albums. Unfortunately, the ones from the seventies have turned kind of orange (the colored photos).
Your journey through old photos has inspired me to do the same….thanks for visiting my blog.
That is a very cool picture!! And yes….labeling is oh so important!!
I find it so funny that bell-bottoms were so old-fashioned and then they came back again a few years ago. That’s a really nice picture! I love men in uniform!
Another nice one! The guy on the end looks so young.
I love the bell bottoms! You’re right: we need to label pictures for future generations. My kids know the stories behind most of our pictures but I shouldn’t expect them to remember them when they’re older. I definitely need to label my pictures. I think I’ll do that soon. Thanks for the reminder!
I’m always amazed by hw many of these old pictures show our
forebears in the military. I have boxes of them. Of course, WWI and
II were their reality. Your dad looks happy, doesn’t he?
Such a great photo! I really need to go through my photos and label all I can!
Your dad’s dashing, Kathy. I love pea coats. I have one too.
Fab Photo!
I just love family history photos. They each tell a story.
thanks for sharing

I love these Saturday snapshot posts of yours! This is such a great photo – your dad looks very handsome and confident.
Great picture! I agree about labeling pictures. When we were going through a box of pictures my parents found even they couldn’t figure out who some of the people were.
Love, love, this photo, and you are right, the clothes are just wonderful! I wish we had some old pictures in my family for me to dig around in!
The clothes are so fashionable … really. I like this look. And he has such a cool, casual pose that fits the clothes.
Love the old photos. Everyone is so young looking. Maybe it was taken over in Europe or something?
Thanks for sharing
I like the variety of stances.
All of these photos seem to be saying something. Photography today, what the average photographer catches, doesn’t seem to possess the same level of meaning that older photos do. Have you noticed that? Perhaps it’s that the image is paired down to simple, black and white and just that alone allows you to focus on the subject.
Ha! So nonchalant looking in the picture. Makes you wonder if a gal was taking the shot! 😉
And agreed–I spend hours labeling pictures–even writing my own name on the back of a picture if I’m included. But…now that I’m more digital it’s hard to remember to do this. Think I need to spend some time cleaning out old photo folders on the computer!
