Review: The Lincoln Lawyer
Mickey Haller is a defense attorney who runs his practice out of the back of a Lincoln Town Car. He’s good at what he does, but for him, it’s not about defending innocent clients, it’s all about the money. In fact, he says an innocent client is the worst kind to have, because the verdict really matters then.
When a wealthy young man is arrested for assault and asks for Mickey to defend him, Mickey sees dollar signs at first. After meeting his client, he fears that he may just have encountered a dreaded innocent defendant. But things aren’t always as they appear and Mickey finds himself tangled in an evil web of destruction.
The Lincoln Lawyer, by Michael Connelly, was quite the page turner! Connelly does a wonderful job of building tension from the start to the finish. I was hooked from the very beginning and can’t wait to read the next book in the Mickey Haller series. Not only is the book loaded with great characters, the story is captivating – I had to know what Mickey was going to do to get out of the mess he found himself in. Even though I didn’t always like the things Mickey did, I loved his character – he was confident and cool and quite a schemer in his own right.
While the book is a work of fiction, Connelly researched for several years before writing it, so you know there is some truth in there and it will really make you think about our justice system. I sure hope there are attorneys out there who care about more than their bottom line. If you enjoy legal thrillers, you don’t want to miss The Lincoln Lawyer!
I’ve never read a Michael Connelly mystery. Will have to try one.
This is one of my all-time favorite Michael Connelly books!
Oh, I am a huge fan of Michael Connelly. If you liked this one, you should try the Harry Bosch series as well. These books rock!
I have had this one in my TBR pile forever…for years. I really need to read it…
I’m glad that this was quite a page-turner! I can’t wait to check it out and even watch the movie!
I loved the movie… have yet to read the book but think I will 🙂
I have not read a Connelly book but after seeing the movie trailer I think I should read this one. It sounds like a very riveting story. I am looking forward to the movie also. All I can say about the movie is…Matthew McConaughey. He’s not hard to look at for a couple of hours!
I am getting this book as well. I’m sure that picturing him as Matthew McC. will make me think better of him!
I love legal thrillers and will have to read this one! I hear the movie is getting great reviews as well. Happy Friday!
This is officially on my list! Thanks, Kathy. Have a lovely weekend!
It has been ages since I’ve read a legal thriller like this – none since my Grisham days – but it sounds like this is one I should pick up.
I’ve been waiting to hear what you thought of the book, Kathy. I must agree it’s a page-turner but too bad I couldn’t get over my dislike of Mickey Haller. Maybe it was because I never pictured him as Matthew McConaughey! 😀
I just read my first Michael Connelly, from his Harry Bosch series and really enjoyed it. Sounds like I should give this one a try to. I do like well-done legal thrillers.
I haven’t read a book book by him yet although I’ve heard his books are quite good. Glad you enjoyed it.
Must read this, it is on my tbr list.
I loved this book and your review. Can’t wait to see what you thought of the movie.
I always love reading his books….I can’t wait to see the movie…
I loved this book as well….my book club is going to see the movie on Monday evening. 🙂
I didn’t realize this one was the first in a series, good to know. It sounds interesting, I’ll have to be sure to read the book before seeing the movie.
I have this in my tbr pile and just might have to move it up after reading your review.
I’ve heard a number of great things about this book – a good thriller every now and again is a great way to spice up the reading life!
My husband is a Connelly fan…I might give this one a try 🙂
Kathy, I hadn’t heard of this one before, but it sounds as if you genuinely enjoyed reading it. 🙂
I didn’t realize that was what the Lincoln in the title referred to.
I’ve got this one sitting on my desk and my husband keeps asking me if I’ve read it yet as I have to read the book before seeing the movie. I guess he wants to go to the movie.
I want to read this and see the movie, hopefully in that order. Thanks for the review.
Great review. I loved this book and I’m not usually that taken with legal thrillers. I can’t wait to read the next one. Now I’ve got to find the time to see the movie.
I love legal thrillers ever since I read John Grisham’s books! I must read The Lincoln Lawyer too.
Great review, legal thriller, who knows, cos I do like Grisham
It’s funny, but I wasn’t really interested in this book, then I read Margot’s review of the movie, and now your review of the book, and I’m adding it to my to-read list now!
Wait this is the one with hunky Matthew M! Going to do the bad thing and watch the movie then maybe read this one next.
PS. I noticed under currently reading Posed for Murder… I’m so jealous! I’ll hold off buying since I need to your feedback first. Can’t wait to read your thoughts on this one next!
I’m looking forward to reading this one I won from you 🙂
I read Margot’s review of this one and now yours…I must read it!! 😀
I don’t read too many books like this, but it sounds like a good one!
I like Connelly and looks like I will not be missing out on this one. Thanks for the review, Kathy. I thought I saw your post on the movie so I’m heading there right now. 😀
I’m not much of a legal thriller fan, but with the movie and the number of great things I’ve heard about this book, I definitely want to read it.
Also, I say I’m not a legal thriller fan, yet I’ve been reading and enjoying a lot of them lately!! So I’ll be picking this one up.
