About
There’s not much to say. I’m a middle-aged suburban housewife with a husband, a grown son and a dog who rules the household. I was born in Bermuda and have moved 11 times (not counting 1 local move) and currently reside in South Carolina. I like to spend time with family and friends, read, play games and travel. You can contact me at kathy@bermudaonion.net.

Hi Bermuda Onion, I read your comment on my blog. We are neighbors. Where do you live in SC.
I am so happy to know that another blogger lives here in SC. That is great. Was wondering if you would put me on your blog roll and I would do the same.
you have a great blog!
Hi Kathy I really like your blog. Keep it up. I know you are enjoying reading all of these books.

Hi, Bermudaonion! I’ve seen your name in the comments at all my favorite blogs lately and decided I was way past due in coming over to visit you.
I just recently moved home to Texas from a stint in North Carolina! Howdy, neighbor! I love South Carolina. Beautiful place. I adore your blog and will definitely be reading more of you!
I came across your blog through a link chain on the book blogs and I’ve liked looking through your blog. I’ll be checking back here for sure!
Happy new year!

Hello, Kathy.
I hope you enjoy The Wisdom of Yawdy Rum. Many readers who may have never experienced New Orleans have told me they can’t wait to visit the city after reading the book. The scenes in the book from in and around the historic French Quarter create a very intriguing draw. As I think I wrote in your copy, I hope you find some lasting inspiration from Ol’ Yawdy Rum.
Best regards,
Micheal
Hi —
I say your comment on a Baltimore Sun article about free books and food… and I came here to ask you if you would have any interest in reviewing my upcoming (4th) novel, BAKED OFF. When I got here to your blog, I noticed that you reviewed Joshua Ferris’ THEM WE CAME TO THE END — and now I would like to know if you may me interested in reviewing my current novel, HANDLE TiME ( http://tinyurl.com/handletime ). It’s office-lit… but from a female perspective… and so funny, you will laugh your post-it notes off! LOL
Thank you for your time. Please email me if you have an interest in either book.
Best Regards,
LiNCOLN PARK
Hi there,
Don’t think I haven’t noticed all the lovely comments you’ve been leaving around the web about my book – I have Google Alert and have seen every last one of them! Many thanks for your support – I’m so glad you liked my writing. And you have a great blog!

Hi there
I’m also a middle-aged suburban housewife, living in the UK. My first book has just hit the shelves and is launching tomorrow – although I’ve already done a couple of book signings and sold out at both! Very exciting!
Cut Short is the first in a brand new series of British crime thrillers. You can read about it on my publisher’s website http://www.noexit.co.uk and check out my blog leighrussell.blogspot.com
I hope you read my book – please let me know what you think! leighrussell@live.co.uk
I’m glad to have found your blog and now I can’t help but get a daily dosage. You have a great blog!
Thanks for the great blog. Great insights and book choices … plus I love the reading list. I wish I could say I’ve already read 100+ books in 2009.
Hey, Bermuda. It was fun meeting you at SIBA and I absolutely agree with you that blog book reviewers are the best. Those that have reviewed my book, The Blue Cotton Gown: a midwife’s memoir, always have a fresh perspective. I’m not just buttering you up either! As newspapers shrink their book review pages, the public will depend more and more on people like you to give them insight and news. Did I give you a copy of my book? All my best. Patricia Harman
Hi Bermudaonion.
Bermuda is the only overseas place I have ever been to, and I LOVED IT. I gather that you no longer live there, but still… to have EVER lived there. That is grand.
I stayed at The Belmont when I was in Bermuda. And the ONLY affordable place to eat I could find was by taking the boat across to Hamilton and sitting at the KFC.
Hi BermudaOnion,
I love the name of your blog, my husband and I met on Bermuda (in 1988!) fell in love, and have been married for 19 years (20 in 2010). Perfect, perfect island. We’ve been back a few times-I wish I could go there more-hopefully will take our 2 sons there some day. I am good friends with Dawn of Sheistoofondofbooks-we were roomates a long time ago, and her husband and mine went to college together. We’re glad to have them back close to us as they lived all over, far away for many years. Anyway, I am holding Dawn personally responsible for this new obsession I have with reading book blogs and going on twitter! But it’s great-what an interesting and fun blog you have. It’s very easy to read and not too cluttered with stuff, I hope you are able to keep it simple. Thanks for your reviews !

Hello bermudaonion! err, what’s your nick name?
Anyway, I have seen you everywhere! I’ve seen your name and photo at almost every blog that I subscribe! That’s cool 🙂
Your blog is interesting. It’s full packed with comments and you have tons of reviews of interesting books that I’d like to read! I’m gonna look around. Nice to meet you and I’m Lex! Feel free to visit my blog.
Hello!
Just came across your blog and am enjoying reading through the posts. Definitely added some books to my list! Nice job on the blog!
there’s an award waiting for you on my blog. Come over and collect it 🙂
I just read your “about”…trying to figure out how you came up with your name (which is really cool by the way) and realize that we are neighbors – i’m a southern gal too (north ga mountains)!
Hi, Bermudaonion! Saw a tweet about your review and was drawn by your name. My husband and I lived in Bermuda as brand-newlyweds from 1978 – 1990 and our son was born there. We still miss it and the great friends we made. In fact, I couldn’t help writing about it in my first novel, The Handless Maiden (Doubleday Canada 1998).
I look forward to reading more of your reviews.
@LoranneBrown
I, too, have Bermuda roots, but not as deep as yours. My grandmother was born near Shelly Bay in 1894 and raised on a farm in Hamilton Parish off Radnor Rd. The family home, Cedar Wylde, was built in the late 1600s and still stands although it left family hands 40 years ago. It’s been nearly 50 years since my last visit. Savannah is my home. I have fond memories of Bermuda and I hope to re-visit Bermuda soon.
Hello all. I,too, was born in Bermuda in 1952. Born at Kingfisher Cottage, then my parents bought “Adwit”. My maiden name was Jones and my mother was a/ the midwife for the Islands and my Father wored at the Agricultural Station.
I now live near Kamloops Briths Columbia, Canada. …been ’round the works twice and lived in other countries but am happy to call Canada home, as did my parents!
Thanks,
Jennifer
Gil, I’m guessing that your grandmother and mine were sisters. I now live in Texas, but am planning a trip home next year.
Hi. Spent some time looking around your blog today and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a matter of fact I’ve spent so much time here today that I can’t remember if I’ve commented already somewhere else or not. If so, put it down to my rapidly aging memory. Great blog!
Dianne
Hey Bermuda Onion. I missed SIBA, even tho I live mostly in Florida, because I was “home” in lowcountry S.C. Enjoy your blog, and check out mine when you get a chance, “On a Clear Day I Can Read Forever,” http://patebooks.wordpress.com
Okra on the menu/agenda today as soon as I stop reading other blogs and Twitter
Cheers! Nancy Pate
Hi Bermudaonion,
My husband is also an onion and we lived there for five wonderful years. It was a beautiful place and I think of it often. We are going back next year and plan to move back again someday. My mother in law keeps telling me it is a wonderful place to raise my kids ( I think that’s a hint to move back asap as the kids aren’t getting younger). I keep seeing links to your blog all over the place, most recently on wonders and marvels. Keep up the great work.
Hi, Kathy!
We met at the fabulous SIBA conference — my husband was the other Bermudian at the show! Love your blog and hope to stay in touch — Linda. travel blogger and sr. ed. at Great Little Books, LLC
Hi Kathy,
Thanks for commenting on my blog. I’m just starting and it feels good to know someone is reading. I love your blog. Your reviews are spot on and help had more books to my TBR list.
I love South Carolina – I live in the San Diego area of California but think of myself as a Southern girl at heart (shout to to Virginia).
Surfing the waves of the web I am pleasantly stranded in this beautiful blog.

Hi Kathy, I appreciate you stopping by and commenting on ShootAbout, it’s great to see another active blogger in little SC. If you ever make it to Star Fort I’d love to give you the grand tour. I’m an avid reader in addition to a Photography Blogger, your reading list is amazing. I wish I had the time to read so much but I usually lend my free time to the camera. I’m going to refer you to my grandmother. She’s a professional reader in a sense, she proofreads medical essays, but also loves reading novels and non-fiction in her free time. Coincidentally her name is also Kathy!

Hi Kathy! I just wanted to let you know that I’ve nominated you for the WordPress family award for being friendly and generally awesome 🙂
Hello Bermuda Onion, I arrived on the island in 1964 and that started a love affair. My father loved the island so much that he became Bermudian and is almost solely responsible for the insurance business on the island. He is buried there, my younger brother, and 2 step-mothers still reside on the island. Tom Butterfield, married to my first step mother started Master Works the museum. I miss the island and am featuring it on my new blog. I am currently writing about Cup Match which is going on this week.
It is great to make your acquaintance and hope to stay in touch. I currently live in Cleveland Ohio with my 4 children and 5 grand children.
I have two blogs http://champangesocialist.blogspot.com/ and http://buttonsandbowsonline.blogspot.com/
I hope that you will visit. I will post your blog on my favorites.
Thank you for the giveaways! Always fun to win a free book!
Kathy, you are the sweetest thing–thank you so much! It was so lovely seeing you at the launch party!
Any chance your grandmother’s name was Aimee’ or Constance? My grandmother was Jeanette. The other sister was Isabel who was childless. Gil
Kathy, very interesting that I was reading Somewhere Safe With Someone Good by Jan Karon and looking up words only to find you quoting from that very book. You obviously love words like I do. Love your Wonderful Word Wednesdays! Do you do a “word of the day” email list per chance?
Keep up the good word!
Katherine
Just came across your blog and I love it!
Stay inspired!
do you ever get back to Bermuda? I’ve been there a few times – just beautiful. Have a great week
