Review: The Human Bobby

October 15, 2010

Bobby Flopkowski seems to have it all – a successful medical practice, a beautiful wife, a young son who he adores – when something happens that destroys everything he knows and loves and he ends up homeless, living in a tent on the beach.

I know that’s not much of a synopsis, but believe me when I say you don’t want to know much about The Human Bobby by Gabe Rotter before you read it.  And, read it you must!  This book is probably one of the most creative books I’ve read in a long time and I just loved it!  It’s narrated in the first person by Bobby and I quickly became attached to him  – an event of his own creation quickly spiraled out of control causing something he never could have imagined and my heart just broke for him.  He doesn’t handle things well, though, so I became frustrated with him.  Once he got himself straightened out, my heart ached for him again.  This book is such a roller coaster ride and just kept me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages as fast as I could.  There was a twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting, but I thought it was so clever.  I read it on my way to Daytona Beach and I think I got more than a couple looks when I talked to the book.   Believe me when I say you don’t want to miss The Human Bobby!!

ooh I am excited now. I want to know more. Though I am thinking I would be better to get the book and just read it rather than search for more information. It would be like pigging out before a beautiful banquet!

I read this book last weekend in less than a day. It gets hold of you and won’t let go until you are done. That twist at the end? I thought it was a little bit of a cheap trick, but it still blew my mind.

  3. October 15, 2010 7:15 am

This one sounds really interesting. I am also intrigued by your very short summary and promise of twist at the end…I might have to grab this one immediately!

It’s funny; few things make me want to read a book more than people saying they can’t tell me much about it 😛

Even though you haven’t said much about the book’s plot, I can tell that you loved it and don’t want to let too much slip so everyone who reads it will have a similar experience to you. I love stories that test the strength of characters, and this sounds like one of those stories.
