Today’s question: Members who have your books. Do you ever look at this feature? Do you use it to make LT friends, or compare notes? There are three tabs- weighted, raw, and recent. “Weighted,” which means “weighted by book obscurity and library size” is probably the least self-explanatory of the three, whereas “raw” and “recent” are more so. Do you get any kind of use out of this feature?
I have looked at the “Members with your books” feature, but I haven’t used it much. I only have 72 books listed, so they don’t have a lot to work with. Under weighted the top one is 11/293 and under raw it’s 41/2599, so I think the raw is a more accurate indication of similiar tastes for me. I have looked at a few libraries and blogs with this feature, but that’s it – I’ve never added a friend with it.
I have a little over 400 books listed and it always shocks me to see libraries with over 4000 books!
i have about a 1,000…and am shocked to see people with 10,000!
One of the friends I’ve made on LT is an Englishman with 10,000 books. I asked him if he lived on a farm and converted all the outbuildings to library space! I have a 2,000 sq.ft. house, and I’m paring down my 3,500 books!
I can’t stand clutter either, so I have a lot of bookshelves. I’ve recently joined Paperback Swap and have released about 100 books to new homes so far, and I will continue to do so until I’ve pared those 3500 books down to the ones that are truly important to me.
Yes, now that I’ve looked at it, I think the “raw” listing is probably a better indication of similar collections. But since my library is so diverse, I’m not sure that would really tell anyone much if they were checking me out.
For a long time after I signed up with LT, I only had a dozen or so books listed. Then I got my husband hooked on cataloguing and suddenly our list is up to 1,500 and climbing!
I’ve never added a friend with it either 🙂 Maybe in the future though!
I’ve used it in about the same way as you have. I know it’s there but it isn’t a main feature for me.
My list is really small too since I am listing books as I read them and only started 08/01/2008. But, I love adding interesting libraries and friends with it.
