Tuesday Thingers and Picture of Milou

February 10, 2009

tuesdaythingers

I’ve missed the last few Tuesday Thingers because I’ve been out of town.  Tuesday Thingers is hosted by Wendi of Wendi’s Book Corner and she has come up with another great question this week:

Do you use a rating system on your blog? How do you feel about using the rating system provided on sites like Library Thing and Amazon? When looking up information on a book you are interested in, do you use the ratings provided by these sites (or similar sites) to help you make the decision on purchasing the book?

I don’t use a rating system on my blog.  I thought about it at one time, but decided against it.  I rate books on Library Thing because it’s part of the review process there, but I’ve found that I usually don’t agree with the masses, so I’m not sure it’s worth much.  I generally don’t look at ratings before I purchase a book – I usually make my decisions on purchases from reviews I’ve read or recommendations from friends.

We were playing Rock Band when Vance was home and Milou was not about to be left out, so she helped Carl with the bass guitar.

She’d make a great bass player. Look how laid back she is! 🙂

Milou is so cute! She has such a sweet face like my little dog!

I love Milou! She looks ready to join the band! i don’t have a ratings system either and hate that I have to subscribe to one on Library Thing, Good Reads, and Amazon.

Milou looks so laid back and relaxed. Just chillin’ as Michael says. I never noticed this till now but Carl looks a little like my neighbor across the street.

I don’t use a rating system on my blog. I thought about it but just never cared for it. I mean what I think might be a 5 someone else could think its a 3 or something.

Ratings on books never makes me buy a book. Its always the review that catches my eye.

    {{not going to sulk about the dog picture..again}}
I agree that I give more weight to a recommendation from someone whose opinion I respect than to a rating…but I do give a rating, especially a very high one from a large number of reviewers, some importance.

Milou looks so content there. 🙂

I’ll rate on LT and GoodReads (and yes, amazon too, on the rare occaison that I post there) but never on my blog.

Me want dog now! Send COD!
I don’t rate either. There’s something I don’t like about it, but I’m not quite sure what it is. It seems sort of unfair or elitist, even though it may not be either of those things.

Ooooh, Chartroose rates! 🙂 in my book, anyway!

Kathy, you and I have the same theory about rating systems.

    Love the pic!

I can’t get into the rating system on my blog either. I just feel pressure if I have to pick a certain number of stars.
However I am growing quite fond of Milou pictures!

I haven’t done the rating system on my blog either. I rarely agree with reviews and ratings. I do rate books on Shelfari, but that’s about it.

I’ve been enjoying reading the responses to this question. The general consensus seems to be no on ratings on blogs but yes when done in a group type setting like LibraryThing. And I agree with that … not worth much to have person say it is 5 stars but if 100 people say it, then I might listen.

    Cute photo!

I love the pic of Milou-it’s so cute. She looks so comfy there.

I don’t use ratings because I find it hard to give a rating to something. I rather like to say if I liked it or not. If I really liked it, I say so.

That’s a great photo! I don’t think Riley has ever climbed on my husband’s lap while he’s playing rock band, but I think he’s had a cat there at one time or another.

I do use a rating system, but it’s more for me than anyone else. My rating scale is top heavy since I like most of what I read.

Milou is so cute!! And Carl as well, of course 😉

Oh, and I don’t use a rating system on my blog. Only when I review books on Amazon for instance.

  17. February 16, 2009 4:59 pm

That is just the cutest photo — of both Milou and Carl!

  18. February 16, 2009 11:23 pm

I can’t play the guitar part very long on this or Guitar Hero or my hands shake for about an hour or so afterward. Very odd!

  19. February 16, 2009 11:26 pm

Kathy – what a great picture of Milou and Carl! I love playing Rock Band, in fact, played it tonight with my hubby and niece, who is spending the night! 🙂

It’s really funny, I originally planned to have a rating on my blog, and decided I valued the overall review more than the number of stars.

Thanks for stopping by and participating in Thingers last week! I’ve got the post up for this week. ~ Wendi
