The Proposal

The Proposal

In The Proposal, Sandra Bullock plays high-powered editor Margaret Tate.  Margaret is a Canadian facing deportation, so she forces her young assistant, Andrew Paxton (played by Ryan Reynolds)  to marry her.   Andrew agrees reluctantly but stipulates that he must be promoted to editor.   A government agent suspects the marriage is a ruse and when he begins to investigate Margaret and Andrew are forced to spend a weekend with his family in Alaska.  Margaret makes some valuable self discoveries on the trip.

The Proposal is a cute, fun,  predictable chick flick.  I came away with a smile, but there’s nothing really deep in this movie, and you know what’s going to happen shortly after it starts.  When they where showing the scenery in Alaska, I was ready to move there, but I discovered that those scenes were filmed in Boston and the mountains were digitally added later.  This movie has a great cast, including Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson and Betty White.

It’s amazing what they can do digitally now! I’ll look for this on HBO or NetFlix.

That’s funny about the addition of the digital mountains. I like Sandra Bullock so I will watch this one. Thanks for telling me about it.

My husband and I saw this last night. It is very fun!

(For what it’s worth, my mom has been to Alaska and said that it does look a lot like that, even though it was filmed in Boston.)

I thought this movie was really funny. I liked the whole Canadian angle, especially when Sandra says something like “but Canada is like another state”. That is actually what alot of Canadians feel like I think!

I loved this movie. It was more comedy than romance. Even my husband liked it!

You get out to see a lot of movies! I so rarely go … but, like Beth Fish, will enjoy this on Netflix.

I didn’t even realize that the mountains were added in digitally! Betty White is awesome, and I actually really enjoyed this movie (it was nice to see that Sandra Bullock can still get lead roles in romantic comedies)

I am so jealous. I want to see this movie so bad. It will be another month before my movie theater gets it. 🙂

I am so glad you gave a review of The Proposal. I am waiting for DVD, but that is my usual when it comes to romantic comedies. I can’t believe they filmed the Alaska scenes in Boston! Crazy! Thanks again for the review!

She is my favorite actress; love her!!! Thanks for the review.

That sounds cute, and it feels like ages since I’ve seen a new movie with Sandra Bullock!

I mostly just want to see this movie for Ryan Reynolds. (drool.)

I hardly ever go to see movies, but I’d really like to see this one. Sandra Bullock is one of my favorite actresses! That’s funny, though, about the digital editing.

I forgot I wanted to see this movie amist trying to get tickets for Harry Potter or Ice Age. I love Chick Flicks, I would probably have to watch it while its still in theatres.

I loved this movie. Yes I knew exactly what to expect but I laughed all the way through.

ugh I hate when they don’t film on location…lets add the mountains later…and then if you took a trip to the location, you’d be searching around for those mountains…lol

    Glad you enjoyed this one.

This one looks like a lot of fun. I tend to enjoy Sandra Bullock movies. I don’t know if I’ll be able to convince hubby to watch it with me, though.

  25. July 22, 2009 12:31 pm

I really liked this one too. Betty White stole the show!! I’m shocked about the digital mountains.

  26. July 22, 2009 1:39 pm

Oh, I can’t believe the Alaskan scenery is fake! My heart just broke! That was the best part of the movie. Besides Betty White, obviously.

  27. July 23, 2009 3:32 pm

Glad to hear this was a fun movie. My hubs loves chick-flicks! I know it’s weird and I’m not into them at all, but we came to a truce over movie watching – I watch his mushy, fun, chick stuff and he watches my indies or horror or foreign films. With the sworn promise that we cannot complain or criticize until the credits roll 🙂
