Review and Blog Tour: Mating Rituals of the North American WASP
Best friends Peggy Adams and Bex Sabes-Cohen own a shop that sells bath products in New York City. They travel to Las Vegas to attend a friend’s bachelorette party and Peggy wakes up the next morning in a strange man’s hotel room. Peggy’s mortified and hurries out of the room as quickly as she can. She’s convinced nothing happened since they’re both fully clothed, but she can’t remember how she came to be in this strange man’s room.
Back in New York City the next week, Peggy receives a phone call from the strange man and finds out that he’s Luke Sedgewick of New Nineveh, Connecticut. He informs Peggy that they got married at a wedding chapel in Las Vegas prior to passing out. Peggy hurries to New Nineveh to get an annulment (she is engaged to be engaged, after all) and finds out that Luke’s great-aunt has offered to leave Luke and Peggy her home (which is worth millions) if they stay together for a year.
At Peggy’s suggestion, they decide to stay married for the year and then sell the house. Peggy spends weekdays in New York, working at the store, which is struggling, and weekends in New Nineveh. It turns out that Peggy and Luke develop feelings for each other, but neither of them will verbalize their affection, so Peggy accepts when her boyfriend proposes marriage.
When Luke’s great-aunt passes away, Luke and Peggy are off the hook, but at that point neither wants the money and they both go back to their old lives, only this time Peggy is planning a wedding. Just before her wedding date, Luke professes his love for Peggy, but is it too little, too late?
Mating Rituals of the North American WASP is typical chick lit with a high brow New England setting thrown in for fun. It was interesting to read about the WASPish attitudes on dress, behavior and decorum. Things like WASPs are always on time for parties and never eat food at them. They don’t believe in showing emotion and appearance is everything. Both Peggy and Luke were frustrating at times because they jumped to conclusions and refused to tell their true feelings. I found this book to be light and entertaining, even though it is somewhat predictable.

The cover of the book is cute but I am just not a huge fan of chick lit.
I surprised by the plot. I was expecting something different. However, it sounds like it would be a nice summer-time book.
It took me awhile to get into this one, but I really started getting into it once she spent her first few weekends up in New Ninevah.

This book is being reviewed everywhere this morning and all have said pretty much the same thing.. that it’s an entertaining read but slightly frustrating. As fun as this one sounds, I’ll probably pass. I have such a hard time wrapping my brain around chick-lit. Good review though.
I think chick lit is fairly predictable, but I love it all the same.
I wouldn’t have picked this up if it wasn’t for the tour, but I did enjoy it. Fun and light, great for summer. 🙂
Hard not to want to read this one with its bright green cover. I enjoyed it. Reminded me of a little of something that Sophie Kinsella would write. I especially liked the poetry in Lipton’s book. Added interest.

It may be typical chick-lit but it still sounds like a lot of fun!
I thought this was a light, fun read, too. Definitely predictable, but still fun. I loved the whole WASP culture. Lots of fun.
