Carl and I are in the lowcountry of South Carolina for a short vacation. We took the scenic route to Savannah yesterday to attend a Moth event. We passed this restaurant in Bluffton, South Carolina, and I asked Carl to turn around so I could get a picture. I’m sure this is a fine eating establishment, but somehow, the name isn’t inviting to me.
The Moth event was fantastic (more about it in another post) and I got to meet author George Dawes Green.

Yeah, I’m thinking I’d skip that one! 🙂

LOL, that’s funny. We’re staying at Palmetto Bluff. You drove right by us!
Aww.. you should have gone in and gobbled.
Squat and gobble. Oh my. The Moth thing sounds like fun. Suddenly I’m hearing about Green everywhere. Have fun.
Places like that tend to have the best food! What a name!
oh how funny is the name.. Squat and Gobble… hahaha..
Enjoy!!
Can’t say I like the name or the woman on the sign, but the two guys on the roof are pretty funny!
I wonder if you would really have to squat to eat? Great photos, Kathy!
yo do wonder what they were thinkin’ when they picked that name…
Savannah is so so pretty. We visited there when we were at Hilton Head. Have Fun
We’ve eaten there! Fun place and had good hamburgers. Watch the speed traps in Bluffton!
You’re probably not the first person to do that!
I’m with you on the name not being too appetizing sounding!!
Great picture! Can’t wait to hear more about meeting Mr. Green!
I had to look up The Moth Event. I thought it was some kind of butterfly exhibit or something!
Love the sign. Jason would have never turned around for that. Lucky girl 🙂
Sounds like you’re having a great time!!
OMG! I can’t believe there’s really a place called the “Squat and Gobble”!!! That’s what my college economics teacher used for all his examples, but I was sure he made it up (maybe he did and one of my fellow econ students opened the place)!
Fabulous name! Did make me laugh. Though must admit I would be weary to eat there. Sounds like you are having a fun holiday.
I’m with you on the restaurant name! I can’t wait to hear about your meeting with George Dawes Green. I just finished Ravens this week. Very interesting, although I’m still not sure what I think about it.
There are several squat and gobbles in San Francisco where I used to live and it was a very popular place with delicious food. They were famous for breakfast crepes – not sweet stuff but all kinds of flavours like Mediterranean and the like. Sometimes the name can throw us off to a great place – or the look – sometimes little hole im the walls offer the best food in family friendly atmospheres – often family owned in fact and portions usually huge enough to take home and a eat a few more times – or share with fellow diners.
Ick! It may be a super restaurant, but the name is such a turn-off! Can’t wait to hear more about the the Moth event.
Lol! Great picture, we love finding restaurants and businesses like that with unusual names or logos 🙂
What a name…I think it’s funny that Lynne actually ate there and said the food was good! You never know with restaurants. Have a great time at the moth event!
I think about this ALL THE TIME. Consider Blimpie for a moment: WHY WOULD I EAT THERE?! Even if they have the best sandwiches ever, the name just indicates that I shouldn’t eat them.
Well it’s a good pic of you but that name just kills me. The Squat n Gobble. I love it!
I don’t find the name of that place appealing either! I can’t wait to hear about MOTH
What an interesting restaurant name. I probably wouldn’t eat their either.
